All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Why don't you just send in an application to both schools? That way you can atleast visit them once and have a feel of the school/s, so that your final decision is not just based on distance

PVed 2 schs ?! Wow very time-consuming... Somemore I'm a wkg mum. My hubby said not to apply PV for the sch that is outside 1km, coz since it requires balloting even in 2B. Then we are only left with 1 choice... He only provides moral support (ie. talk only) but wants me to be volunteer ! :x Jz hve to monitor the take-up rate for this year.
The thots of having to go thru the selection/interview for PV really makes me cold sweat, jz like job interview. But for the sake of our \"next generation\", what to do.... -
Hi all ..
Have received varying inputs .. Is the right time to apply to schools for PV - two years before child is due to join school ?
2005 born kids - how do I work backwards? 2 yrs from June of the year before they join P1?
many thanks

For 2005 kids, they would be joining P1 in 2012. Registration in 2011. So count 2 yrs backwards from that, you can start ur PV applications in 2009. MOM criterion is that you must join as PV latest by June 2010 in order to qualify for 2011 registration, but some schools open up their PV intake earlier. So it would be safer if u start writing in from 2009. But then again, some schools may not open their applications that early. So all depends on which school u looking at. Best is to call up that school to enquire. -
Hi rradhika,
It depends on the school requirements. Some schools which are very popular may require you to put in more time as a PV. However going by general for a child born in 2005, you should be signed on as a PV not later than 30 June 2010.
My 2 cents worth would be to check out the school/s you are interested in and if possible talk to the staff. If they do ask for more than one year's worth of PV, then do sign up. Just note one thing - which is what are your chances inspite of doing PV - if the school is so popular that PV also has to ballot, then think more than once before committing to being a PV.
By the way, which school are you looking at?

Many thanks Luanee. Will call the prospective school to check on when they start PV apps. Am a bit nervous since no clan.church etc etc affiliation. Heard some schools let's parents know on PV rejections after 10mths of wait !!

Hi Vividla,
Thanks for your reply. Chances are not that great despite PV though all good schools seem to have balloting in every phase ! Looking at schools in the Tampines vicinity, looks like Hilda's stands out. Am sure they receive piles of PV apps

Go through this site and you can find past statistics of schools in Tampines. Go for the school you want which is closest to you (less than 1 km will be ideal). So even if it is in balloting, you will stand a higher chance of getting in as less than 1 km people get first preference even for a ballot. -
Hi
Need some advise.
Iβve sent in the PV application to SCGS last yearβ¦ and now i am still waiting for their reply.
I called them last month to follow up, they said my application is still pending. Why they are holding back so long? -
When is your child due for P1? Since SCGS is one of the popular schools, maybe you should follow up with them often just to show how committed you are about being a PV.
Hope this helps!hamster:

rradhika, it would be best if you submit ur PV applications to a few schools instead of one school. Do check out some schools to be considered as your 2nd or 3rd choices. Just in case the 1st one rejects u after 10 months, at least u would not be left with nothing!
