2010 PSLE Mathematics
-
This year’s Math PSLE was acceptable for pupils weak in maths and easy to pupils who excel in maths. Unlike previous years when parents complain of difficult questions, this year’s paper was better. MOE sure did the right thing, with tougher questions at the last part of paper 2.
Thumbs up to MOE this year! -
There were also some toughies in booklet A… luckily there’s no parents who complain in ST review…

"easy paper means lower T score…some parents pray for difficult paper". Is this true? Heard from expert parents.

Hi , my son says that the pattern is as follows :
1 ---------------------12(rods needed to make a cube)
2 ------------------- 20
3 ------------------- 28
4 ------------------- 33
5 -------------------- 41
6 -------------------- 46 -

If my child was gifted in math, yes, I'd definitely wish for a tough paper. Otherwise how would you distinguish the brilliant from the above average if everyone scores 100? -

Hi all
Finally 3/4 of the battle is over for those not taking higher chinese. DS said 3 papers were surprisingly easy. But very sad for Maths when he realised later he makes alot of careless mistakes. He said can kiss his A* goodbye. Indeed the Maths paper is easy, but in my opinion it takes one to be very focus and detailed to avoid pitfall. Some of the questions were about the same as past year PSLE questions with a bit of twist, eg P2 Q18, P1 Q28. The sweets question is the one they have seen since they were P4. For P2 Q17, at one glance it looks very complex. But yet one simple step if they realised the pattern from odd to even add 5 and from even to odd add 8, then they can work in group of 2. So the pattern increased in a regular interval of 13, and the height in interval of 3. So regular interval is very easy to work with. Tianzhu’s solution in the other thread is what I have in mind instead of complex algebra expressions. Yet under such stressful condition I don’t think most can think straight. DS left these 2 parts blank. I told him is OK, but just very upset over the silly and careless mistakes on the questions he had been practising. I dare not even say anything or show my unhappiness. Ren, Ren, Ren because he still has 2 more papers to go.
