Hi snowman.697
DS doesn’t take higher chinese. Just heard him on the phone with classmate about outing on Monday after Science paper. Guess he is not so upset after crying for 1 hour yesterday. Heng lah look very happy after the Chinese paper. Hope he can do well for Science to make up for the marks lost in Maths. You too focus on the next paper or 2 papers if you are taking higher chinese.
All the best -
You said he has 2 more papers… anyway thanks for the support.

Hi all,
appreciate all the efforts and sharing by all parents and children concerned. Like most forumers views, my DS also said, all of his classmates were shocked by the Maths paper being so relatively easier than they expected. Should be a bummer to the T score though.
The only question that is in doubt here, seems to be Q17c. The correct answer of either 782 ( majority get this one ) or 779 ( minority ). I guess the difference is in the information provided for the pattern itself. The dispute seems to derived from the number of rods for Structure 3 ( is it 25 or 28 ? )
We just have to wait for clarification on the pattern itself, I guess. Need to see the question to clear the air here.
Wish everyone the best of luck !!
After Tuesday, DS can finally 'touched' his computer again
He deserves a nice break.beauty queen:
for those who do not know how to do the pattern question here is my solution.
untill patern 3 , it increased by 8 right? After that it increases by five. Students may become pretty confused. when seeing this. Then it increases by 8 again. So it should increase by 5 for pattern 6 so it should be 46 rods. For height it increases by 3 after every even number (multiples of 2). So pattern 6 is : (6/2)x3 = 9 height for pattern 119 is
119-3=116 ( beacuse for the first three patterns it increases y 8 then it increases by 5 and 8 respectively)
116/2 = 58
So there are 58 5 rod cubes and 58 8 rod cubes.
58x5 + 58x8 = 754
Now you have to add 28 to it ( the total of the first three patterns)
754 +28=782Dharma:
Structure Number Number of Rods Height (cm)\t\t\t\t\t
-------------------------------------------------------------\t\t\t\t\t
1 12 3\t\t\t\t\t
2 20 3\t\t\t\t\t
3 25 6\t\t\t\t\t
4 33 6\t\t\t\t\t
5 38 9\t\t\t\t\t
6\t\t\t\t\t
-------------------------------------------------------------\t
a) Fill in the number of of rods and height for structure 6. [1 mark]
b) Find the height of Structure 119. [2 marks]
c) Find the number of rods for Structure 119. [2 marks]
Q17 ( c )
119 is an odd number.
We can establish a pattern for the number of rods for Structure Numbers that are odd numbers.
Structure 1=> 12 rods = (12 x 1) + 0
Structure 3 => 25 rods = (12 x 2) + 1
Structure 5 => 38 rods = (12 x 3 ) + 2
Structure 7 => 51 rods = ( 12 x 4) + 3
.
.
.
Structure N => [12(N + 1)/2 ] + (N – 1)/2
So,
Structure 119 => 12(120/2) + (118/2) = 779 rods -

What do you think of the Math 2010 PSLE?
OK OK lah... i tot pr 1 very easy, so pr 2 will be hard! but pr 2 was... ok lah

The maths paper super easy. I very annoyed -_-
I want a difficult paper.

hashroop:
\"easy paper means lower T score..some parents pray for difficult paper\". Is this true? Heard from expert parents.
if you can get 100/100, how to get low t-score? -

Thanks,Hi , my son says that the pattern is as follows :
1 ---------------------12(rods needed to make a cube)
2 ------------------- 20
3 ------------------- 28
4 ------------------- 33
5 -------------------- 41
6 -------------------- 46
Yes, I got the first number in the series wrong, regardless of which the answer is 782. -
Carrot:
Gosh! If first 2 paper were to be easy for these above average kids... :!: :!: wondering science would be tough or not lei? I heard this is thr first batch science weightage diff from previous year ...truth or not? :? :?
Ca3kids:
Indeed, easiler is better as least they know they have cleared the paper with certain confidence to move on to the next paper.
Mellette, agreed with you. Let us don't concern of how the T-score will affect the result first but for easier paper esp Maths as 2nd day paper, it really help the kids to have confidence to tackle the next coming Science and Higher Chinese papers.
Yesterday I saw my DD keep smiling as at least she is happy that English and Maths paper is not as difficult as the prelim and esp after Maths paper, I can see her confidence level is more up as she saw her answers are mostly correct after discussing with friends and from forum feedback in the web. At least for Maths (One of the most time consuming and tricky paper) had cleared.
As mentioned by some parents earlier, weightage is the same. What I understand is that the Science paper content will be narrower and the questions will be fewer but tougher. They are expecting more in depth and precise answers.. :roll: :roll: -
kiasiparent:
Perhaps they may be more strict in their markings knowing the paper was easy this year. MOE may not want to be under fire again this year after last year's fiasco, hence the easy paper but they may resort to more stringent markings. This may eventually affect the overall T score.hashroop:
