Hi lwm99,
Looking at your itinerary, hope you have your transport from Osaka to Hakone, and from Hakone to Disney sorted out. It looks rush and tough to me.JustKP:
I'm in the midst of planning my free and easy trip to Japan this Dec. My itineraries as follow :
Day1, 2 - Tokyo (Prince Sakura Tower near Shinagawa station)
Day 3, 4 & 5 - Osaka (Hotel Universal Port for 2N and Hearton Hotel Shinsaibashi for 1N)
Day 6, 7 - Hakone (Prince Hakone Hotel)
Day 8, 9 & 10 - Disneyland/Sea (Sheraton Hotel)
According to JNTO travel planner (very useful), I can take shinkansen from Shin Osaka to Odawara and it takes 2hrs19mins. From Odawara, the hotel has a free shuttle bus and last pickup is 4pm.
As for Hakone to Disney, it'll be Gotemba (JR Gotemba line) to Namuza to Mishima (JR Tokaido line) and Shinkansen Hikari to shinagawa in 1hr36mins. I'll then pick up my luggage from Prince Sakura and head to
Disney.
Do you think there is any problem? Pls comment.
Hi mckenzy,
With above transport arrangement in Hakone, we'll catch the hotel bus by 4pm so should be ok. I've 2 problems. Need to find out last free shuttle from Gotemba premium outlets to Gotemba station to change the train to Namuzu and whether it is easy to get around from Prince Hakone Hotel.
Can anyone help? Thank you. -

Any reason why would want to sequence your cities this way? You end up making 2 long treks from Tokyo to Osaka and then back. Are you leaving from Singapore? Why not fly into Haneda and return from Osaka? If I were you, Day 1-2 Tokyo, 3-5 Disney, 6-8 Hakone and then 9-11 Osaka. Don't underestimate the amount of work it is to pack/unpack and transfer, it'll eat up the time you have available to do the really fun things.Hi lwm99,

Hi JustKP, the fastest way from Hakone to Tokyo should be to get back down to Hakone Yumoto station and catch a line back. Odakyu probably has a train back (about 2 hours i think)… it drops you off at Shinjuku and you can make your way to Maihama from there…
One of the reasons to go to Hakone is to see the sights, like the Boiling Egg Valley, take the Pirate cruise (chilly but fun)… see the Glass museum… etc etc… if you reach Hakone in the afternoon you will be hard pressed to accomplish these things… + 5pm no more daylight…
and as you’ve realised… there’s nothing much to do nor see at night on this mountain…
Anyhow… based on your itinerary, have you figured out how to get to Gotemba from Hakone?
There’s actually a bus from Gotemba station you can catch back to Tokyo city… stops at Shinjuku as well… -

At the time of booking, the only flight available to Haneda will arrive at 2305 and return flight will take off 0655. Both ways, the airport limousine has already stopped operation. To get tickets in/out from different airport, it will cost lots more (I missed the NASA travel fare promotion).

I intend to bring 1 large and 2 small luggage. I will then transfer clothings I need for Osaka/Hakone into 2 small luggaage and the big one is to be stored at Tokyo hotel till we return or used their delivery service (taikuhabin) to send my luggage to Tokyo. I'm travelling with my husband and 2 teenage kids, so shouldn't be a problem with the luggage.
Pls feel free to comment as I really need advice coz this is our first free and easy trip (though not our first to Japan).
Thank you. -

Thank you.[/quote]Where are you staying in Osaka? There is an airport shuttle train that leaves for Kansai from the basement of Swissotel (which is a great property, by the way) that is very affordable and speedy. The Shinkansen to and from Osaka will not be cheap, strongly advocate one-way instead of return.
When I flew into Narita the last time, I actually took the public train from the airport. This was with wife and two small kids. It was a bit of a pain but certainly do-able and very affordable. -
JustKP, would you consider give up Osaka or Hakone for this trip, and leave it for next time? Then you will have less packed itinerary and more relax time, especially if you are going with kids (are you?).
I am not sure if your flight arrangement enable you to fly to Toyko and depart from Osaka (or the other way round). That would save you a lot of time in transport.
From Hakone it is easy to go Gotemba. There is a bus for it. But you have to take the outlet shuttle at the Gotemba station to go to the outlet. I guess you probably already know since you have done a lot of homework
If you arrange for luggage transfer, make sure they deliver on the time you require. -
JustKP:
Unlike a packaged tour, the rule for F&E is really to go for simplicity. My view is that there is too much travelling and too many transfers in your itinerary. If you really must return to Tokyo to catch your flight, then I suggest you plan your trip this way.
Pls feel free to comment as I really need advice coz this is our first free and easy trip (though not our first to Japan).
Thank you.
Day 1 arrive Haneda --> Osaka via Shinkansen D1-D3 Osaka, D4 Osaka to Hakone, D4-5 Hakone, D5 Hakone --> Tokyo/Disneyland, D5-D10, Tokyo/Disneyland/Sea
Keep your luggage with you, you don't want the stress of having to schedule time and constrain your program just to link up with baggage. Also, suggest you stick to one hotel in Osaka rather than switch for just one night, its an easy enough town to get around and its not a long haul from Universal studios to Shinsaibashi. You don't really want the packing/unpacking, check in/check out to eat up your precious hours and constrain your flexibility (which is the beauty of F&E). If you need to, spend a little more, time is precious! -
Hi,
For booking of rooms for 2 adult, one 12 yo and one 10 year old, can we book a room under 2 guest which provide 2 semi-double beds?
Can someone advise please???
Tx -
Hi Herbie… you can’t… japan is very strict about such things… best go for a triple…
add to that… the rooms are very VERY small… -
Hi
