Oh, i heard fr a parent that some schools may use Orientations to stream your kids into classes. They make them do art and English/Maths exercises while we parents are listening to the briefings. Then they use those exercises to stream them.

Wow :!: I didn't know about such things.
For my son, he was not streamed during the orientation...he was just allocated in a class based on the registration phase...streaming took place at the end of P1 and also end of every year.

So far i heard IJTP and MS dont stream.

My child secured seat in zhangde primary school (2011) but she is in india.School had sent letter regarding the orientation program on November 20. Since my child is in india, Is that fine to skip the orientation. Shall I attend ? Will there be any issue with admission.

It should be ok if the child is not in Singapore. Just that you would need to do your own follow up where getting the uniform, book list. I don't think the school would take attendance on that day!

          Hi vicki,

I heard CHIJ TP streaming starts at P2.
Remember someone mentioned that the culture at CHIJ family of schools is not stressful...hope I feel this way next year. 🙏

better to check with school if need to bring the child for orientation.

my neighbour (whose gal is gng to same sch as mine next yr), says she asked if can dun bring kid cos her gal has music lesson on the O day, but the staff says need to bring as there’s a "small test"…

talked to my gal’s kindy classmate’s mummy (gal also gng same sch next yr) and she also says she called the sch to check (as they’ll be gng on holiday), the staff told her need to sit for a test. if not in SIN on the O day, can take the test upon return. and it’s MOE requirement / the results need to be submitted to MOE kind of thing…

I don't know about if there will be any test in CHIJ Toa Payoh, but from what I heard, the parents will attend briefing while the gals will go to their respective class with their FT and classmates.

No test for my dd's school. The school doesn't believe in streaming, not until P5. Even at P5, just subject banding (don't know what's that yet) no top 2 classes kind of thingy

                  Hi sleepy,

Lucky you…my son has been streamed since end of P1.

                  Hi vicki,
I heard from a friend that IJTP does stream, from P2.

Actually I prefer streaming. I find her school 'super nua'
Been on wait list to transfer, I prefer 'siao ON' school

                      Hi,
Setting \"small tests\" for orientation day is not a MOE requirement. Not all schools set tests for their students on orientation day. It's all at the schs' discretion. There are some schs which band their students according to abilities after these \"small tests' but most schs stream their students after P1 or P2.
Good luck to your DD with her placement test. :celebrate:

                        Hi sleepy,
WOW!! Your child's sch only stream in P5? Maybe the sch doesn't want to stress the kids. 😄

Subject banding is just allocating pupils of the same ability into one class for that particular subject.
