Wow, teaching fractions at K1 ??? :!:
My daughter is learning time in school, but hubby is teaching her money.
Have to push her a little bcos teachers are busy preparing them for concert end of this mth. I'm also trying to finish up some grammar and vocab workbooks - reinforcing her is/are/has/have and pronouns. -

[quote=\"Brenda10\"]One of my freind told me that she has started train her son on fraction when he was in K1. :!:
Both my kids grasped fraction at K2. No special training required, it can be introduced during daily activites, eg. when cutting a cake
Fraction can be fun. You half I half. If I share my half with daddy, we each get one quarter  -
Hi, my daughter will be going to P1 in Year 2012. Iām wondering if it is necessary to enrol her into enrichment classes next year to prepare her for primary 1. Please share your ideas and comments. Thanks!

I started my son on Chinese tuition when he was in K2 (4th term) as we had registered him in SAP school (where EL and CL are 1st lang). For my daughter who's going to P1 next yr, we registered her for RC classes in March this year as we are concerned with her Eng next yr (no EL textbook). The teacher isn't in favour of kids taking just one subject...since it's not expensive ($30 per subject), we signed her up for Eng and Math. -

I started preparing my daughter for P1 only this year. Didn't prepare my son for P1 (he's in P4 this year) earlier than K2. That's why I don't qualify for KSP. HaHaHa.dimsum:

i think it's a good thing to give our kids a headstart. it will be even better if we integrate them into their daily playtime. some things i did with my kids last time: i bought quite a few books that were educational in nature and took it as an after-lunch or before-dinner activity. however, being too persistent may lead to adverse effects which we as parents, do not want of course. i guess the last thing we want is for our children to be afraid of what they will be learning in primary school...
on the issue about sending them for enrichment classes before p1... well the activities they do in kindergarten should be good enough to stimulate their brain development. i personally feel that such enrichment classes deprive us of family bonding time and it might be a waste of money. but den again, it's just a personal opinion.

My daughter is going p1 next yr n she is not taught multiplicaton and division!
Her writing skills are not there too! is she prepared for p1? any advice on enrichment classes for her case? -
hello Rockdiva,
for multiplication and division, you could start off with simple examples like dividing many things into equal portions, or putting things into groups of 5 for instance. for primary 1, the knowledge needed for multiplication and division is quite basic so i dont think there's a need to send her for enrichment classes now. for multiplication, it's within 40, and for division, they only need to know how to divide things pictorially.
regarding writing skills, you might want to start off by encouraging her to read kids fiction first? that would at least help with her grammar and vocab before she goes on to grasp the more advanced techniques of writing such as sentence structure. Personally, i didnt send my kids for writing classes until they were in primary 3, and they still did well.
hope this helps.
