The Alternative Story (TAS) - Discussion
-
Yes, at first I was skeptical as I had not heard of TAS but after getting the book, I am signing up my kids for their holiday program. The book is really very good and the writing of the children is of a very high standard. I myself enjoy reading the stories. TAS, do let me know if you have a second volume too!

TAS
Just a thought, will it be possible for us to purchase the book at yr coming workshop?
Thks -
When it comes to writing, TAS is really the place to go to!
This is my experience after sending DS to their English classes. Their science class is also very good, my DS went for both English and Science. But I find for Science, it is still possible to find good and clear science tutors or centres. But for English, they stand out because I have not been able to find any tutor or centre that teaches like them. The teachers are very clear and the way they teach creative writing not only gives children a lot of clear strategies to use but my DS really got much more confident in writing and his love for writing grew by leaps and bounds after attending TAS. -

Do you mean at the Forum Galleria event? We are not selling our
creative writing books there as we do not have the rights to do so.
It is solely meant to be a creative writing event that is tied to
Bookuburra's Children's books

Hi Chengg
could I know what is the writing standard for your son before joining TAS? My daughter has been attending another famous enrichment centre. I saw the improvement in her comprehension, grammar etc, but not so much on writing. She can get 80 and above for paper 2 but for compo, she tends to make a lot of grammar mistakes and writes boring composition. Her marks on compo is usually around 12/20. I was thinking to send her to some creative writing classes and it seems TAS is highly recommended...... -
Hi, Homeworkmummy,
Can share which enrichment centre your gal is in and in which level ? I am equally struggling with paper 2  -
homeworkmummy:
He (DS1) was getting 23-25 over 40, after TAS, he got a range from 30-34 over 40. For DS2, he was getting 12-13 over 20 and then later he got 16 over 20 and then in P5, he got 30 plus over 40. However, we were with them for about 8 months and then had to pull out as we moved quite far away. But am thinking of putting him (DS2) back despite the distance as I cant find any other centre or tutor that can help him as much. DS2 is now getting about 27-28 marks. Can see that his writing is better but his interest is doing down, down and down and now he can't really be bothered and also his sentences are going back to his old boring style.

(Anyway, only DS1 went for their science classes so I cant say for other levels. But for him, he improved a lot too but after quitting, we also found a home tutor that was also good)
But for my DD who is 9, she is very self-motivated and even without tuition, she takes older brothers' notes from TAS to study and can do well. So it also depends on your kids. How is your kid like, motivated? -

it's the much talked about \"The Learning Lab\". Her comprehension has improved really a lot. She used to be a borderline case for comprehension (e.g. 5/10) but since attended TLL, she has managed to get 8 or 9/10 for her comprehension. Well, I guess not all credit should go to TLL, she did put in effort as well.... She likes her teacher and enjoys her class at TLL..
