Yes you are right! Sometimes i wonder if they are using the primary school uniforms coz they are so short!

i often go to toa payoh central, and every time i would not fail to spot these girls in grps
and they are def not the same grp of girls.....

pinafore with belts wearing at hips, funky hairstyle, some even being highlighted
talking and shouting at the top of their voices as if there were nobody ard

I am so amazed that the teachers do not notice and reprimand these students that are flouting the school rules with highlights, tattoos, even nose rings and tongue rings etc! The public can spot them a mile away! There must be some discipline instilled. If not, why bother to have any rules at all!

i am sure the discipline mistress can do a much better job !!!!Ha ha - I heard that she finally gave up the role as the students never changed! :roll:

True! Sadly, the problem crops up when you do not have parental support or if you are easily influenced/weak character and struggling in your studies. That is when a good school support and peer support is most needed by these students.

Sigh, this is sad. This school seems to attract all the wrong kind of attention. But it does bring to mind what dd1 has been telling me the past year. The P told them all negative news about chij girls will all point to TP. My dd1's classmate who was transferred from another IJ school confirmed that in that school, it is common that if anyone asks which school they are from (obviously due to not so ideal behavior), always say CHIJ TP.


For those girls who come from the TP primary school, discipline is very strict. And they are normally well behaved. But in the sec school, they have girls from other IJ primary schools who enter thru dsa (sports), and they bring with them a different culture. Some of them went into dd1's class in sec 1, and she was so disgusted with them, loud, not very respectful ie talk back at teachers, etc. But in sec 3 when they got to know each other better, she find these girls quite sincere albeit behaving differently. So they became friends. Those girls are still questioning teachers and all, but that's the way they are. Dd1 understands that that's the culture in their primary school, and she also knows that's not to be emulated. Values are instilled during the primary school years, both by the school and parents.

Yes primary school is very strict in terms of punctuality, discipline, uniform etc. They use to check the belts to ensure that they were not too loose and hanging low! But the secondary school is a nightmare! They come and go as they please and sometimes when a student is absent for a week, the form teacher is not even aware!

How is it that the primary school is fine but the secondary school is lacking? Has this to do with the secondary intake coming from other feeder schools and elsewhere as well?

Agree, especially if they come from broken homes! All the more, they need the attention and support and discipline!

The Primary school management is quite on the ball! So they enforce strict rules etc. However, the secondary school staff don;t seem to carry out their duties at that level. Actually most of the Sec students are from the CHIJ TP Primary school as the cut off points due to affliation is quite low.

I was transferred to CHIJ Kellock only at P5 & moved to CHIJ TP (wonderful feeling being the first batch of P6 students). In the primary school, discipline was strict and there was a feeling of some disciplinary mistress breathing down the neck at all times.

Could it be there is no disciplinary mistress in the secondary school ?? If they can pull one over from the primary school, I’m sure the belts will stay at the waist and there is no such thing as smoking or dyed hair.

I really really hope the affiliation stays, or else former girls like us won’t find any added incentive to send our daughters back to the school.

Hi Janet_lee88 Don't worry, primary school is alright. Try to do well and move on to CHIJ St Nicks Secondary and do IP.

I will be investing more time and effort on my daughter...and hope she does well to get into a better secondary school...wonderful if she can make it to CHIJ St Nicholas. That would be great. Appreciate all the wonderful advice you have given. Thanks:)

Thanks for all the wonderful and valuable input by mummies who have daughters in the secondary school. I can only hope and pray hard my daughter stays on the right path and enjoy the time spent in CHIJ TP. As for secondary school, I can only hope that the affiliation stays…and that the quality improves.
