School chooses their PVs based on their needs.
If a school needs only traffic wardens, then they possibly don't look at the parents' qualifications. But if the school is planning to renovate, or refresh their website, then they might look for parents with such expertise. For instance, read http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=223328#223328on PV for Catholic High.
Some also said that some schools prefer PVs living nearer to school, some also said schools prefer SAHP so that they are easily available. Exactly what a school's selection criteria is, we wouldn't know.... -
Based on the one school I applied and got PV into, I think they liked pp who could commit the time. There’s plenty to do - like read to kids during school hours, that FTWP are not able to commit on a regular basis. I heard of PV in other school doing gardening etc.
All said, the pv selection remains a big black box. Interested parents can wade in. But please this is entirely up to perogative of school - it may be difficult to get in/fufil the hours. But the alternative - if they should scrap this program, would mean that many parents will find the doors closed on them. Worse right? -
Hi hquek,
The school which I applied and got PV also like parents who can commit their time easily. However, I agree 100% with you that NOBODY knows how PV selection is done and on what basis. There was this couple back then who got selected to start some entrepreneur program.
A friend of mine will go to the school to read storybooks while another did art and craft. -

Really? I heard of having to commit art lessons too, but in another school. As long as you are selected and can chalk up at least 2-3 hours each session, you can qualify under Phase 2B.
Well even under phase 2b may not guarantee our dd of a seat...cos we are within 1-2 km n they hv balloting for 2b in this yr registration....we just need to try our luck...HappyAvon:
Parents who write in to the school to register as PVs usually don't end up doing things they are trained in...if they are lucky enough to be selected, then what they do can be things like watering plants, painting wall murals, do traffic warden jobs, washing sweet potatoes, helping the school shift furniture when they move to temp locations...but never sit in front of the PC and enjoy aircon.
The pv task u listed sound so easy leh...for the school which I PV for my girl, need to commit to weekly programme relating to reading, Chinese n maths besides the adhoc assignment...

Hi HappyAvon,
I wish you all the best in the P1 registration next year. Don’t worry too far yet…I know it’s easier said than done. -

Hi Janet, thanks..we din worry too far...we hv a backup plan to try other school and many things are beyond our control....if she can get in, its her luck...otherwise just try somewhere else...of course, as a parent, we just want to help her to get into a better school...Hi HappyAvon,
