Chinese is important and will continue to be important for a few more generations. If someone like Jim Roger sent his DD to NYPS to learn Chinese, it already tells you something. Sadly, many KSPs here don't see that. Many of them find ways and means to \"escape\".

Now back to the question.every subject is important in sec. They carry equal weightage.

He is attending berries and today is the last day to decide if he wants to continue next yr. They will give him priority for class timing if sign up by today .

I wld advise to continue CL tuition for sec sch if the child had needed the extra coaching to maintain his grades in pri sch. The difficulty level is much higher.

                      HI Jennifer and all

                      thks for the advice.
what is the impact if he does not do well in chinese? also, i am hoping he can get into the IP programme. If he does get into the programme, does it mean that we can "relax" a little bit on chinese?

dh’s view is that we shouldn’t focus so much on chinese in sec school, so he is not really for the idea of continuing the enrichment class.

                      regards

Every darn subject is important. It's all about balancing. I think one should go with the flow. If your kid is weak in Chinese, let him concentrate in English. English is still the most important in the many more years to come unless you want to work in China. The world is so big and China is not the whole world. I think there is too much hype in Singapore about Chinese learning. If you are good, that's good for you, if not why force it.

We have a family friend who flung his Chinese in schools. Now he works in China and is so good in the language. Language learning can be quite circumstantial. If you are forced into the environment due to work next time, you pick it up really fast. Faster than what PSLE or 'o' level can do for you. Because the need is there, the motivation is there.

The point is, why force because of all these fear. We don't even know where our kid will work or what he'll do next time. The future is never certain, why are parents so certain that Chinese is so important that they have to get so stressed up about it on their kid now. Relax, be present with yourself and your kid. The future is never certain.

What's important is for one to follow his interest and pursue it with passion. If you are passionate in a thing, the world will have a place for you.
