Sully M, called MOM, cant do anything abt her bf unless they commit crime. if she gets preg i have to inform MOM and they'll decide if she will be barred in the future.

Heard of cases where the employer will send the maid back immediately once pregnancy is confirmed, MOM is not informed, otherwise, $5000 bond is at risk. I think the doctors doing the medical checkup will normally inform the employer first.

Just to share: also know of a family whose maid for 4+ years was tested HIV positive. Luckily whole family tested negative for HIV. Now, the employer does not let her maids use their cutlery and plates, etc. The maids have their own. Always good to take precautions...

Looks like agents are always taking advantage of situations to raise maids salary, no thks to the phillippines for setting a fixed rate for their maids...this has also caused the agents to raise the rates for other nationals as well.

I gave a separate set of bowl/plate as well as fork/spoon for maids to use…bcos I wanted to save money on the Hep B blood test…also for hygiene reasons. After sending off my last maid, I dumped the utensils & mattress they used.

We have separate items in the house for the maid as well.
When they leave, we donate the unbroken ones to The Salvation Army.
But as you can easily guess, most of their personal items, as well as many things in the house are broken by them by the time they leave.

Yup, my maids spoilt my vacuum cleaner by pulling the cable too hard...not once but several times. So much so that the technician told me to save money not to repair it until it cannot power up. :x I told them if they continue to spoil anything in the house, they will see their salary being reduced to repair the spoilt items.

do you pay the maid's loan upfront? if yes, will the agency refund if you send the maid back on your own? cos for mine, it's stated in our agreement i have to keep the maid for at least 30 days for her to get a replacement else payment forfeited. checked wif MOM, they wont chup cos it's btw employer n agency.


i will give her the benefit of doubt once more since her day 1 here till now no other issue and can work.

from my experience with my agent, if u fully settle the maid's loan, yes, it can be offset with the replacement maid. if u decide to return the maid & go to another agent, it will be forfeited.

though mine is free from Hep B, we do give her separate plate but after she left, we threw away her plate, mattress & blanket.

My so called \"experienced\" maid spoiled 2 new vacuum cleaners within 3 years! And these are not the cheap vacuum cleaners! Told her that must vacuum and mop floor one room at a time. She wants to be quick, she must have vacuumed whole house when we are not at home. Naturally motor burnt. When we bought the new vacuum cleaner recently, the salesman reiterated that vacuum cleaners have small motor so use continuously for 20 to 30 mins only. Repeated this to her nicely and she yelled back to me! :shock: Of course, her reaction only proves that she has NOT been using it the right way!!!

Btw, does anyone make sure that their handbag is always within sight at home? After one of my maids stole from me, I will always make sure my handbag is within sight at home. So when I go to the bedroom, I carry it with me. When I am in the living room, it is also carried there. I place it on a table where I can see clearly.


Know of people who arrange for their telephone number to be "private" so that the maid will not know the number. Is it really necessary? Shouldn’t the maid be given the number so that her family can reach her in case of emergency?

We put our handbag, wallets & personal items in our bedroom. My maid cannot enter our bedroom without our permission and we always have our room locked when we are out.


She doesn’t need to have our home tel. number also as she can always reach us on our mobile.

My handbag was always in my cupboard…handphone and keys also in master bedroom. She doesn’t know the home no bcos her family members are not allowed to call.


My vacuum cleaner is Karcher. It is heavy bcos it’s water-based. The maids handled it too rough and spoilt the mechanism for on/off switch as well as the cable when she pulled too hard. Then panicked and told me, ‘mam spoil already. vacuum cleaner cannot on’ :x

I had one maid who didn’t clip the pillow case and it ‘flew away’ :x
