All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools

lolz. write to or call the sch lor. i heard of friends who got transfered based on good results. for my case, i think ds1's P1 result is not bad but was told that he will join the waitlist like the rest.jedamum:
i understand that it depends on the sch. some schools will give priority to those with good results or niche skills. for the sch that i am applying for, i was told that they go by waiting list.
How do you know whether they're basing on results or niche skills or queue?
If based on niche skills and was shortlisted for audition, does it mean chances higher?
While waiting for the school reply, is it advisable to apply for another school at the same time? Or is better to wait ...
Anyone been through this? Can share?
Thanks.
you can apply for as many sch as you like, cos sometimes it takes a long time to wait for your turn if the sch is very popular.
my ds1 has classmate got transferred to his sch at beginning of P2, and by mid P2, was transferred out again. -

it also depends on needs, or perceived genuine needs / more desperate needs .... -
Thank you for your valuable information
I had contact with MOE and Shuqun primary school.
Reply from MOE says that we get a seat only on vacancy available in the said school.
And the admin of Shuqun says they will inform if a vacancy arrives if we place my kid in waiting list.
I doubt that what if there is no vacancy? near by schools are Rulang and then Corporation PS. In my kid’s case, her mother tongue is Hindi and Shuqun have Hindi center.that’s why we prefer this school. can the MOE help us to attain a seat in this school? I am really very tensed and confused reading all those stuff from MOE and other schools. HELP ME SOMEONE… -

I can understand your stress and confusion about P1 registration...even Singaporeans are stressed over this. Agree with what citygirl mentioned, ie ask MOE for help regarding placement in schools with vacancies...it's impt to adjust to Singapore education system first.Thank you for your valuable information

Let's put it this way. If you put your child in the waiting list, you get a chance. If you don't even put your child in the waiting list, the chance is zero. Hence, no harm leaving your name in the waiting list. Explain your situation to the principal of Shuqun, and see if further assistance can be sought to put you on a higher priority.
Next, make a trip to MOE to speak to the staff there. Again, see what sort of assistance the staff is able to provide. -
Hi Munnoos,
Don’t be stressed! I suggest you put your child on Shuqun’s waiting list AND enlist MOE’s help to get your child enrolled in a school, any school, offering Hindi as a mother tongue.
If you’re lucky, you’ll get Shuqun. If there just isn’t a vacancy, you’ll still get a school where your child can study Hindi. It may be a little further away from home, but Singapore is not a very big country and school buses can bring your child from your doorstep to school and back. It’s safe and convenient.
So don’t worry, take things one step at a time and we are always here to help! -
Hi all,
My son is currently in P2 n is in a all-boys Catholic school. Due to his quiet nature, he always get picked up in school. A classmate of his, this one boy in particular had been bullying him in class/school/school bus. Over a period of 10mths, juz tiz yr alone, i've bn to d sch's office 6 times. From name callings to severe others like, get thrown at wif a stapler, ruler, water bottle, etc. The stapler landed on his earlobe & left a big cut while d water bottle hit directly on d left eye.
Yesterday, again, my son came home crying saying that he got kicked simultaneously on d stomach by d same boy in d school bus. I brought him to d GP & was informed that he had brusing & swelling on d area due to d attack. Thus doc gv him 2days MC to rest...
I simply fail to understand why the school refused to take serious actions against this boy. Message that they spread across (indirectly) would be, society would tolerate bullying & it's ok to take advantage of d passive ones.
Apart from being quiet & reserve, my son did pretty well in his studies, violin & sailing as his CCAs. Now, i'm considering to perhaps transfer him to another school. Can anyone pls throw me some light... Am i being too overly protective? If transfer is d best option, hw wld i go about? Head dn to d school directly? Pls..pls..advise.

Hi chic_mom,
The incident happened in school bus so maybe because of that the school didn't take any action.
Since your DS could do well in studies, why don't you let him stay in the school and find other means to overcome the matter. Maybe ask the school bus operator to get a different bus for him.
Transfer is still an option, but I would put that as the last one. -

Oh dear! This sounds terrible!
Have you spoke to the form teacher and principal? Perhaps request for a change of class and find alternative transport arrangement. Can understand your heartache. Transfer school is an option if all else failed but there's no guarantee he won't meet another bully in the new school
The other way is to encourage him to make more friends (I know it's easier said than done for a quiet child) so that he's never alone. Bullies generally like to pick on loner -

My advice to you is go to the principal office to demand action being taken, failing which a police report will be lodge stating that both the offender's parents and principal failed to act; and complaint to be sent to MOE. Put it on email and c.c. to the relevant parties
