All About Primary School Math Enrichment

Hi, i need advice. I was also thinking enrolling my 4 yr old son to CMA, then proceed to MPM. If i withdraw my son from CMA after 2 yrs, will it be ok? Will he remember the \"formula\" thought and continue to use it for mental calculation? Pardon me for asking this ignorant question. I am still doing research on this area and i read a thread somewhere that his son forgot the formula when he's in P1...
Ideally i thought of enrolling for both but it seems a bit \"stress\" for a kid to attend 3 math classes in a week , so i gave up the idea. Am i thinking at the right track? For him to attend CMA and get the basic mental calculation right, then proceed to MPM to grasp the mathematical concepts? Its rather difficult to make a decision. :? -

I was in the same situation as you. Then I did some research and found that many parents are looking for a balance between mental calculations and process skills (for problem solving).Hi, i need advice. As such, I've taken up the challenge of learning abacus and am now a qualified instructor teaching at Nan Chiau Primary School 3G Abacus.
I will be opening a few abacus classes next year focusing on 3G Abacus techniques for mental calcuation and my own materials for problem solving for K1, K2 and lower Primary. -

Wow! Kudos to you! That's really great! I will never take up such challenge...its too challenging for me.

Not sure whether you received an email about the free math evaluation from soma math, the one at City Square Mall? The eval is quite sophisticated, and gives a good sense of the areas your child needs to work on. Their programme sounds really fun and interesting, but only for 6 - 10 years old, an unusual age range, I thought.

Hubby's colleague visited that center before. Center looked nice and new. She's quite keen until she heard the fees at $350 per month, more expensive than learning lab :!: -

There are quite a number of threads on Maths enrichments eg. CMA, MPM, Enopi, Kumon, Maths Olympiad, etc etc. Can read up for feedback

I've visited the center before too and quite like the environment and teaching approach. If I remember correctly, they offer classes for 1.5hr or 2hr sessions per week, longer than most centers. Maybe that's why they charge a bit more.onlyykk:

I was keen to enroll ds but a bit too far from my house for weekly travel. Too bad. But might consider doing holiday camps. -

I thought 1.5 to 2 hr is the norm :scratchhead:
Hubby's colleague ds is in Learning Lab. She commented Learning Lab 1 hr 45 mins at $200+/mth & is already considered very expensive compared to other centers. Other centers are mostly between $100 - $200/mth. Hence, she is reluctant to part with such high fees for a new center without any track record.
By the way, I've not visited Soma school personally, hence should reserve my comment. Perhaps they indeed have a unique programme targeting other parents with deeper pockets ?
How old is your ds?
Do share your feedback if you sign up for the holiday camp
