Not sure whether you received an email about the free math evaluation from soma math, the one at City Square Mall? The eval is quite sophisticated, and gives a good sense of the areas your child needs to work on. Their programme sounds really fun and interesting, but only for 6 - 10 years old, an unusual age range, I thought.

Hubby's colleague visited that center before. Center looked nice and new. She's quite keen until she heard the fees at $350 per month, more expensive than learning lab :!:

There are quite a number of threads on Maths enrichments eg. CMA, MPM, Enopi, Kumon, Maths Olympiad, etc etc. Can read up for feedback ๐Ÿ˜„

I've visited the center before too and quite like the environment and teaching approach. If I remember correctly, they offer classes for 1.5hr or 2hr sessions per week, longer than most centers. Maybe that's why they charge a bit more.

I was keen to enroll ds but a bit too far from my house for weekly travel. Too bad. But might consider doing holiday camps.

I thought 1.5 to 2 hr is the norm :scratchhead:

Hubby's colleague ds is in Learning Lab. She commented Learning Lab 1 hr 45 mins at $200+/mth & is already considered very expensive compared to other centers. Other centers are mostly between $100 - $200/mth. Hence, she is reluctant to part with such high fees for a new center without any track record.

By the way, I've not visited Soma school personally, hence should reserve my comment. Perhaps they indeed have a unique programme targeting other parents with deeper pockets ? ๐Ÿ˜‰

              How old is your ds?
Do share your feedback if you sign up for the holiday camp

Oh, many centers having 1.5 to 2 hr huh? I newbie to enrichment center coz ds only 7 years old, P1 now (exams start tomorrow!), and only attended a year of Kumon for Maths, so can't comment very much on other brand names too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Kumon was only 45min x 2 session per week for $120, resonable price for a K2 kid, but it's practice after practice, not so \"enjoyable\" for him. Since he started P1 and was getting homework from teachers, he would frown when asked to do the drills from Kumon. So I stopped it 2 months ago.

I brought ds to City Square Mall during Children's Day weekend and happened to see Soma school's booth there. So ds played with their math toys and he enjoyed trying to figure out the solution -- he likes anything that is related to play! That's when I took a peek at their center.

I found a thread by Soma in Kiasu parents and went to their blog. They are actually \"imported\" brand name from Korea, just like Kumon was imported from Japan. So probably got some \"background\" la!

For the camps, I'm still digging into my shallow pockets, trying to decide which camp to join coz due to time constraint, can only fit in a 1 week camp in Dec. Will share if he goes for their holiday camp. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Both of my kids are 9 and 10, They are doing Kumon now and I think they are great, only 15 mins for them plus school home work, piano practice and swimming thatโ€™s enough, They need to be a kid too

Enopi from Korea, MPM and CMA from Taiwan, Kumon and Sakamoto from Japan, homegrown ones are Maths arena, VIP learning, etc etc ... Hehe, after you plough through the entire Maths thread, you will become an expert. In fact, information overload :faint:
