All About Travelling Pregnant Or With Kids

Hi TimmyOwner,Hi
Any brave parents out there have brought their 1-2 years old on long haul flights, e.g. 12-24 hours?
I am worried that my child will be stressed out but DH feels strongly that we should bring her along.
My main concern is my child. I want her to have a good time, like DH says, holidaying, but hopefully she won't be too stressed during the flight! She has gone through a 12 hours day flight and night flight with both ok. I think my DH and I were more stressed than her! But I have never attempted 24 hours before...
Any encouraging stories to tell...???
I brought my kids when they were 2 and 4 to US. It was ok as I brought their toys to entertain them. They slept quite a lot too, however during the turbulance, they cried but that was the only time they cried loudly and for a while. Other than that, there was no prob. -
long flight for kids :
beware of dehydration, just like adults
bring lots of favorite sweets, toys, favorite bolster, etc -

My gal went on her first flight to cananda when she was 18 months old ...and she slept most of the time, without waking up for meals. The only difficult time is the landing and take off where the ear pressure got the better of her and she cried rather loudly.. So you may want to be prepared for that..Hi

Other than that, the experience was a positive one ..the flight attendants adored her
Guess your decision may also depend on the nature of your child. My gal has been an easy baby since birth...up till now, she still loves to sleep and the moment she hits the car...she will just nap... -
Just curious how or what you would do to prepare to ease the discomfort during taking off and landing for your child?

Provide sweets for sucking. Otherwise, chewing gums. If child is still being breastfed, feed during the take-off and landing.
Did all these for my children. They never had a problem with flights. -

u could also get the \"ear plugs for airplanes\" at Guardian Pharmacy. It must be specifically for air travel. It helps with the ear pressure. Very useful. Don't get those for swimming or to block out noise - not suitable at all.Manfrotto:

Hi,
It is my 1YO boy 'maiden voyage' on an aeroplane....
And we are travelling to Perth.
Understand that Australia Customs has strict regulation.
Pls kindly share what are the do's & don'ts, especially for packing. What were your packing list? Also, how did you cook the various meal for your kids?
Any advise much appreciated!!

I travelled on my own with my DS1 to meet DH in th US when DS1 was about 20 months. The entire trip, including 2 domestic flights, took about 30 hours. The long-haul leg via SQ was the easiesr because he could sleep and the stewardesses took great care of us, e.g. playing with him so that I could eat or go to the loo. The first domestic flight was the most tiring, as it was 5 hours long, and I was so tired, but he was full of energy! But I survived.Hi

Breastfeeding helped, so there's never been a problem with ears. The timing of the flight is also important. It's best if you are able to time it such that it coincides with bedtime, then dress them up in pyjamas. If not, try to start adjusting your child's body clock before the trip.
To entertain the kids, I'll get them new activity books. They especially like those with stickers. That will keep them quiet for a bit. Though, be warned, if your child is very young, you'll need to do the books with them, so you won't get to rest.
If you're going on a driving holiday, make sure you make frequent stops. For us, this worked out to about one every 60 - 90 mins. Two hours max, and only when they happened to be napping. Bring music CDs your kids are familiar with so they can sing along and not get bored.
I usually don't worry too much about diapers. If I have space, I'll pack enough. But i know I can always get supplies.
I think travelling before baby reaches 6 months is the best if you're breastfeeding, because you don't have to worry about food. Otherwise, If they're not having full table foods yet, I'll just bring a few bottles of baby food/cereal that they're familiar with, and and I'll buy groceries from the supermarket like bananas, apples, grapes, bread etc. It's ok not to have their usual diet for a few days while travelling.
I always carry medication with us. Just get the doc to give you their usual cold medications. And don't forget travel insurance!
I also carry laundry detergent so that I can wash their clothes. Sometimes i just don't have enough clothes to last a long trip, and they get into such a mess, that it's best to wash their clothes the same day or the stains might never come off! It also means i pack fewer clothes.
I don't have a stroller - i use the sling, which makes babies ultra portable. I think it can be quite troublesome to travel with a stroller. Some hotels provide strollers if you really need them.
We've had many trips as a family - both long and short haul flights and road trips. I love travelling with my kids. The kids really remember the trips and will talk about it for a long time to come.
The most tiring trip i had was another long haul flight to the US this year. This time it was me, DH, DS1 (5), and DS2 (32m), and I was about 3 months pregnant. I wouldn't do it again unless I had too. I had previously travelled while pregnant, but those times I was either alone, or only had one kid. This was the first time with two kids. The kids were OK but I was exhausted, even though DH did most of the parent duties. It didn't help that i was still suffering from morning sickness. Travelling with kids is ok. But not when you're pregnant! -
Hi,
Bought my DS to Melbourne when he was 16 months.
I think one very important factor is \"TRAVEL INSURANCE\" one should not missed. I bought one, paid about $120 for me, boy and DH.
It was worth it as my boy came down with rashes and me fever (after salving for 7days
). Total bill claim came up to $150. PD is EX!
Anyway, sharing you here the checklist to pack in main luguage.
