[Jurong West] Primary Schools

hi i’m new here. my daughter will be going to primary 1 in 2012. i’m a little lost to whether should i send my daughter to xingnan primary, jurong west primary or shuqun primary.


shuqun primary is because it’s my husband ex-school so she got priority but its too far from my place.

i’m staying at jurong west st 93 the nearest sch is jurong west pri but looking at previous results phase 2C required balloting. and i scare that i’m not that lucky which will need to go into phase 2C sub for other school

and for xingnan pri, seems like a good school to go to other then west grove primary in jurong west but usually if phase 2c sub very hard to go in. Can anyone advise me what to do?? can’t make up my mind for my children future

Xingnan is good school i think you can ahead with it and since it will be nearer to your place too...IMHO

My DD's grandparents are staying within 1km from Rulang and I can use their address to apply for P1 registration, right? And If I get to do PV with Rulang, will It increase the chance of getting a place in that school? :?

If you are going by the caregiver route, your girl will be under the 1-2 km category, even though the grandparents stay within 1 km from the school.

Based on history, you seem quite safe. However, there is no guarantee that the situation will be the same in the year of your child's registration.

FYI, is not easy to get into PV, normally they only select about 50 PV out of 250+ applicant.

Just wanted to share that Rulang is a good school with very dedicated teachers. Their strong School Management team believes in both academic excellence and holistic development of the child. I registered myself for PV when my DD was 5 years old (back in 2004) and after an interview by the VP, I was lucky enough to be selected. Helped them with the Learning Support Programme for the English Dept.

My 2 DDs (now in P4 and P5) enjoy school very much and have been given many opportunities to take part in activities besides academics, like S’pore Youth Festival Choir competitions, Green Environment competitions, Science Olympiad, China-Singapore Exchange Programme as Little Reporters, Malacca cultural trips, Student Leader Camps, E2K etc. I don’t travel very often so the overseas trips are really good exposure for them. My elder DD, who used to be very shy, has shown more confidence in herself through these programmes. The school also has special programmes developed for P1 to P6, with a different theme for each level. For example, my P5 DD is learning basic economics skills as a "Young Entreprenuer" while my P4 DD is learning how to develop a simple prototype invention as a "Young Inventor". According to their school handouts, the theme for P1s is listed as "Young Authors", for P2s "Young Nutritionists" and P3s "Young Environmentalists".

The school workload in Rulang is undoubtedly heavy, but my DDs have explained to me that their teachers always remind them that this is done to help phase them into the demanding P5 and finally PSLE requirements better. The teachers also provide extra classes for their students before their exams and have extended sessions one day per week (till about 5pm) … so additional tuition classes may not be necessary.

Oh, thanks for yr info. In Rulang, are all students compulsory to take higher Chinese. Do yr children attended any courses b4 P1?
