Any recommendation for classical music for children?

Benjamin Britten has a piece called Introduction to the Orchestra. And of course the Saint Saens. You can try searching thru Amazon, quite a selection of DVDs. It’s good for children to get the visual as well so that they can associate the instrument to the sound. As for CDs, there are plenty of selections to choose from. Get popular classics selection to start with.

Which one will you recommend? AS for Oscar the Piano, I tried to search from Amazon, but there's any that is suitable for kids.

Can't see the CDs, too blur. My ds has 2 favourites, Tubby The Tuba and Oscar The Piano. They're excellent. Her piano teacher gave it to her but she bought from UK. you can check out HMV at Heereen and if they don't have, see if they can order for you. That shop has many other classicals for kids too.

The SSO has a version that you can get for around 10 bucks but it's not as good. It introduces kids to the diff musical insruments.

Fantasia 2000 is a cartoon with a lot of classical music, the NLB has copies.

I do like individual composers in 1 CD, featuring the most famous works of each composer.

Oh, and if you can find Saint-Saens' Carnival of Animals, that's great too.

Sorry, no pics to show. Actually I don’t have compilation albums of popular classics. I’m a professional musician/teacher so majority of my albums are either from a particular composer or performer or orchestra.

Hi there,

I started my kids with Mozart Piano Sonatas, just piano pieces when they were just few months old to develop their listening skill. I think is better not to train young children (very young one) with orchestral pieces for their listening due to some pieces can be quite emotional for them and will affect their temperament too. J.S Bach's music is a very good choice too beside Mozart.

Try the Esplanade music library. DVD title: Classical Music in the 40s, chapter: Introduced by Dr. Malcolm Sargent with Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell by Benjamin Britten. It's in black-and-white. I mean the film, not the cover. Can't recall the colour of the cover. It's better for kids to see the instruments as they listen to the clip because it can get kind of err.... boring for them. This piece is not melodic.
