Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)

How is the environment for Molin like?My gal has been with Jiang Education for 2 year, Molin another year before now settling in TH. Out of the three, Jiang beats all the rest if you do not mind the 3 hours and the travelling ( Rochor ). My gal has a strong foundation in Jiang after been with them for 2 years ( 1 year doing the 1.5hr as she was only K2) then. She can tackle the papers in Molin and TH with ease, with the exception of compo and compre as Jiang was not training them intentively then. As for Molin, despite the materials is good, I cannot say the same for the teacher and the environment. Hence, it was hard to convince my gal to stay further. Currently, she is doing 2 sessions with TH, both the enrichment and creative writing. Yet to see results as she is there for the last one month only. Nevertheless, my 2 gal friends have been hard-selling TH to me as their boys have been with them for the past 5 years. However, I need to qualify that there are doing both programs together in order to reap the result.
Hope my inputs help... -

To put in my daughter's words, the place is quite run-down, toilets are dirty and kids are made to sit on the floor for half the session when the teacher is teaching which is the last straw for her

Hi babynicole,Re Jiang program, I was not able to comment for the P2s as my gal was only with them for K2 and P1. However, their 3hrs course is really a success. To some, it may be simply drilling, but the hard fact is, the result showed. However, I stopped when she was in end P1 cos really tired of waiting there for her for 3 hours, plus like all others, I thought other centres could do an equally good job.
I am giving TH a final try before enrolling her back to Jiang next year, if necessary. As some of you may know, my gal is currently in Poi Ching. Their Chinese standard is really very high. My gal has been constantly scoring almost full marks when attempting the other top school papers or in her enrichment centre but when doing her mock school exam last week, scored a terribly border-line mark
Can a P1 kid sit through a 3 hour session? By the way, where is Jiang located exactly at Rochor? -

Surprisingly they can. At first that is my worry too especially my DD is the \"cannot sit still\" child. However, these \"China experts\" simply have a way to motivate the child plus there is an unofficial break of 10 minutes whereby they can bring some snacks into the class. In fact, my child is bugging me to bring her back to Jiang if TH material is not up to her school standard, but I am so lazy

Jiang is on the 4th floor of Rochor Centre, very near to OG ~ Albert Complex, walking distance to Bugis shopping centre. That is where I spent my 3 hours weekly. -
Can you share how is the class of 20 students in Jiang Education? This is something very different compare with other enrichment centre.

Eeeks, dirty toilets are a no no for me, are they always dirty or was it once off? Sorry to ask so much but I did hear good feedback about them from friends..

:!: I heard Poi Ching order Chinese materials from China. Didn't use the standard MOE textbooks[/quote]

My boy is in Poi Ching P1 this year and maybe I can share what I know on its P1 higher chinese. Poi Ching uses their own chinese textbooks(only can buy from PC school). The text book is developed jointly by PC teachers and some China school teachers. It uses 儿歌式韵语识字. In P1, they also uses MOE recommended Higher Chinese textbook to learn HanYuPinYin during term 1. Thereafter they uses their own textbooks(1a & 1b). Each chapter is like a rhyme. After every few chapters, there will be a list of 60+ - 90+ words extracted from previous chapters. Students are required to know/recognise all these words(parents have to go through the list and indicates how many words students recognise and signed back) and every week or every other weeks, there will be a MCQ test(around 60+ to 100 questions, 4 answers to choose from) on this.
Students are expected to recognise around 2000 words by end of Pri 2.
Their syllabus is indeed more difficult as compared to MOE.
My son is with YuQuan for 2 yrs(K2 & P1) and copes well in PCS as his foundation is quite good. I think most importantly is the teacher and student chemistry. His current YQ teacher is able to sustain his interest in chinese and thus his result is satisfactory. However YQ's teacher turnover is high. He is with his 4th teachers in his 2 yrs there. I am also looking around for a new enrichment center for him knowing this teacher will not stay long. So whichever enrichment center we choose, teacher play a great part. We just have to keep searching for one most suited to our child needs. -
Glad to find this post. My dd used to attend Tien Hsia’s HMT in Primary. She stopped in Sec1 but result is not good. She need help in tuition in Sec 2. Anyone can recommend a school good in HMT enrichment for Sec level? Berries seemed popular but is it good for Sec level?
