My son also did badly when he was in sec2. And the best decision I ever made was to hire tutors for him. After that, his attitude toward learning is more serious because he knows that I have to spend more for him. His O level result was excellent especially in Math. He credits his success toward the tutors. Now, he is in Poly and very motivated with his study.

Finding a good tutor is also very difficult. I would recommend full-time tutor, not part-time. And you need to monitor tutors as well, speak to them, ask this and that. If the tutors knows that you are watching their works, they would be more devoted.

Can use the holiday time to brush up their weak subjects.

This is what many education savvy parents are doing nowadays.

Because now the student has more time and less stress. And can utilize the time to clear up many of the problems areas they faced.

Some student hate math while others are scary of math. Some seriously lack the background of previous classes while others simply need a change in learning attitude (but making such a change is never simple though). These initial obstacles have to be dealt with before going to the next step which includes strategic theory review and practise questions. What does “strategic” mean? It means 2 things:
(i) most important subjects which carry high mark portions have to be carefully highlighted and addressed
(ii) the preparation need to be individualized to deal with particular background weaknesses of each student.

Indispensably, every student needs to know by heart the tips to identify, analyze a new question as a known question and thinking process to solve it.

I’m sec 4 this year, been failing almost everything since sec 1 (just not enough to retain, lol). So I’m taking O levels, when do people usually start studying (like intensively)?

if u're failing almost everything, u need to start intensively study NOW!

u have a lot to catch up and just a pass for everything is not good enough. imagine u just pass every subject... 6 x 5 subjects is 30 points. u think u can go poly?

Yeah one of my teachers said when she was in secondary, at the end of sec 3, her L1R5 was 43. So she knew she had to buck up and by prelim 2, it became 20+ and O level 13. So it’s possible to lower your L1R5 within a year, provided you’re willing to work hard.

My child is also not doing well in Physics and we are looking for a good tutor for her O levels this year. Have come across physics tutors like TuitionPhysics.com, Physics.com.sg, etc. Heard that they are quite good but not too sure which is the best for my daughter. :?


Anyone has any suggestions?
