      Muffins:

      :? Dear All, please help to ans the following Pr 3 maths...

      Miss Tan bought some balloons for her pupils. If she gave each of her pupils 6 balloons, she would have 2 balloons left over. If she gave each of them 8 balloons, she would be short of 2 balloons. What was the least possible number of pupils Ms Tan had ?

      Thnks πŸ˜„

      Make the number of units x.

      So, 6x + 2 = 8x - 2

      Adding back the negative 2, we get: 6x + 4 = 8x

      8x - 6x = 4

      2x = 4

      x = 2

      Cheers!

      Muffins, firstly, thanks for the solution.

      but ans sheet show 14 :?

      I suppose WE are both correct, should be \"2\" , printing error i suppose :celebrate:

      BTW is algebra being taught in Pr 3 level ? Do you have another method of solving this question, i dont know how to explain \"algebra\" concept to my girl :stupid:

        Hi thir-teen,

        i used the same method as yours to arrive for the ans 2.

        so i suppose this is the best n easier method to teach Pr 3 level i.e. trial n error method right?

          If Ms Tan gives each pupil 2 extra balloons, she will have 4 less balloons.
          If Ms Tan gievs each pupil 1 extra ballloon, she will have 2 less balloons.

          No. of pupil = 2/1 = 2

              Hi Muffins,

              Your method of using algebra is equally fine 😎

                  Hi Muffins

                  This is just my personal thought. No offence. I would not use algebra at this level. Logic reasoning is more ideal for me. If you are comfortable with it is OK. However for better understanding, you have to state what does x means before proceed to write the equations.

Instead of making the value \"x\" or \"unknown\" make it \"units\". Easier to understand for students, or at least for me πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

                        Hi!

                        Anne has $165 and Cally had $200 at first.
                        After spending an equal amount of money, Cally had twice as much money as Anne. How much money did each of them spend?

                        I was able to solve it by algebra, but my son in P4 cant use it.
                        Anyone able to help me with the correct method of solving?

                        Thanks so much in advance πŸ˜„
