No choice......I have to send her for ENGLISH , MATHS and CHINESE tution in order to prepare her for P1. I failed to do so for my elder son two years ago as I dont have any info on this issue. As a result , i have to spend additional time to coach him when he was in P1

                      Hi Leoleo18,

My k1 boy also having spelling this year. What his teacher did was to make the kids practise writing 1/4 page of each word. Get your kids to write and spell the words a few times.

Both my kids have a very strong foundation in phonics. They know how to listen to the sounds of the word and figure out of to spell it. This technique makes spelling very easy for them, especially for my 6 year old girl who has spelling since K1.

The following was her spelling list for this term.

                        3 April
                        1.blind
                        2.deaf
                        3.wheelchair
                        4.handicap

                        17 April
                        1.gravity
                        2.ramp
                        3.crutches
                        4.braille

                        30 April
1.The girl wears a hearing aid.
                        2.The boy cannot walk.

                        15 May
1.He needs crutches to help him walk.
2.The blind use braille to help them read.

She knew how to spell almost all the words even before she started to practice writing them. Not all the words can be spelled accurately using phonics, but phonics will help her to spell most of the word correctly, and so she only has to memorize a small part of the word. Being kiasu, I still make her practice writing once every day, starting from one week before the test.

It also helps that she is reading very widely.
                        http://tamarindvillage.blogspot.com/2009/05/what-they-are-reading-now.html

I made sure that she reads consistently everyday. Being able to read very well means that she is familiar with many commonly used words.

Parents should make sure that the child knows phonics very well, and reads consistently, then spelling and writing will be very easy.
