Hmmmm … I wouldn’t do it, starting from the time they are in kindergartens. I have discussed it with my spouse when my nanny allowed her P1 to skip school for CNY visitation (many years ago). Our decision since then is no. We don’t want the children to get the wrong message.

Did you know that you will need permission from the P for doing so?

Else it will be recorded as truancy.

If grandparents are overseas, I will let my boy skip school.
Can skip the school CNY celebrations (means can leave in the afternoon before the celebration day).

Depending on that particular year's CNY, if happen to have long weekends then may not need to skip anything extra. Else maybe have to skip 1-2 days.
Need permission from P? πŸ‘… I thought just need to inform form teacher...

CNY celebration would be held on the eve of CNY, right? Do all schools hold a celebration on that day and have no classes?

For next year, 1st day is on Thursday. That's why I am wondering how many days would be considered as reasonable to allow my kid to skip. Of course, the daddy would like more days, while the mummy would prefer fewer, naturally. πŸ˜›

but from the school's perspective, what happens if it becomes widespread .... like eg only half the class is left ?
But again, why should the school care, if it is the parents who want their children to miss school?

the school cares because the half empty class is a distraction

i would..max abt a week... especially if they are only in P1 πŸ˜‰

Will definitely talk to the FT before that and bring along anything she will miss during this time.... πŸ˜„
My DH would love that I have this mentality...

But in my kid's case, she will have a number of make-up classes to do as well... in the past, we usually forgo a couple (DD & DS) that are kinda expensive as no make-up allowed... :moneyflies:

I would if I have to. I think it's not an issue for asking permission from the P πŸ˜„

well... I don't feel that I have to... that's the problem. Only DH feels so. πŸ˜›

So, I don't think it is that difficult to ask for excuse to skip school for a few days, especially if the reason is valid.

Except that this reaon will happen every year except in years when CNY is on a Monday/Tuesday.

I would like to, but the schools would not allow (or discourage), so on that basis, I would not do it as it sends the wrong message to my kids.

Interesting, but why would the school not allow? Is this the case in your kids' school?

By the way, may I ask what is the message that you do not want to send to your kids?

I should rephrase, my DS1 school principal said she strongly discouraged parents from arranging to leave on vacation during term time, even at end of term. The message is one of manipulating the system for ones own end.

HOWEVER, having read some of the other posts in this thread, I might consider taking him out just a day early as this fits my flights better for next year.
