Upon submission of forms, we were asked to pay $40 for misc stuff that the kids might need in sch including diary, toothbrush, worksheets kind of stuff.
Other than we were informed that my son need to attend a test on 20Nov which is the orientation day…while parents will go to another side to listen to principal talk…

Which school will your son be going? The kind of test is dependent on the school. Not every school has test. -
hi KSP parents out here
saw from the posts here there are streaming in P1…really?? :!:
i tot streaming only comes when they are in P4!..do u mean the schools will start to segregate the smart and the not so smart kids at such a young age? I don’t think is a wise idea cause really feel P1 (7 years of age) is still too young to expose them to stress of being segregated… -

Streaming more precisely more of subject banding is very useful irrespective of the whether high ability kid or not. It will help group kids of same calibre together so that the teachers can focus and set the pace for the class and no one is left behind, nor are some kids bored
What is worrying is kids yet to enter P1 may be intimidated by the new school environment, and may be anxious and hence the test may not reflect their actual ability. If at all they do, they should do it 2-3 months into P1 when the kids have more or less settled down.
I am not sure if DS school has it. It did not when DD was in p1. -

It sounds similiar to my son school. Basically is only a readiness test. My son told me he was given a short passage to read and some sentences to answer to test their eng level.Let me share on my son's Primary school

Following after, some children has been put into the \"reading programe\" whereby the kid will join a small reading group to speed them up. I'm not sure about the actual content of the reading programe though.. -
Think mine just have to read a 100-words list on the first day of school (don’t know the difficulty level though). The purpose is to gauge the kids’ reading readiness.
Orientation all in one day:
1) kids will be led to their respective classrooms with their classmates after a school concert presentation to introduce some popular CCA.
2) Principal will address Parent while kids are brought on a school tour. Afterwhich parents can all fill up all necessary forms (no payment required for anything).
3) Wait for kids to finish the class activities and let them get used to the class setting. Go home.
4) Optional : Purchase of school bags, uniform, transport arrangement at the respective booth. -
Hi Parents,
According to the schedule from the principal, the following program on 12 Nov (Fri) is:
530pm: Parent and child to reach the school. Register at canteen…submit forms for bus service (optional).
6pm: Child to go to her class (mine is daughter) with her form teacher and meet her classmates…enjoy some ‘ice breakers’. Parent to attend briefing by principal. Collect booklist.
730pm: Bye. see you on 2 Jan.
Books and uniforms will be purchased either on 24 or 26 Nov at the school. -
