I called the school last week to ask abt purchase of uniform/books too. It was a terrible experience with the admin office personnel, the rude lady asked me curtly if it's really NCPS I am calling?! :x

The sch will ask for feedback regarding its admin staff & various vendors during year end.

Anyone received letter to buy uniforms and things? Already so late and no letter yet, NCPS really terribly slow...yet still requires students to wear uni on 22 Nov. Sigh.

Get used to it. Even the notices for temporary suspension of enrichment classes by vendors (managed by Alumni) comes late. Really late. So late that many parents were very upset because their kids missed the classes (no make up lesson) and many vendors were not even kept in the loop (and the enrichment teachers were either overseas or already had other things planned)!

Ok, I checked up personally with the staff there. She said this yr's orientation does not require students to wear uniform, unlike past yrs when the orientation is 2 days. Is it true? Any parents can ascertain this fact? She said sch will send out letter soon.

I went there to get uni and shoe first instead of waiting for the letter. Good also that there's no one there yet and I get the full attention to let my son try out diff sizes. I also paid for the name tag as sch as pre-ordered for all P1 children.

Any parents know if student is allowed to wear velcro-type shoe? I find the school's laces shoe a bit troublesome and I have to spend time teaching him how to tie it (some more the laces must be NCPS one bearing its name).

i totally agree! they operate based on their own timeline, with scant consideration of parents/guardians' need to have slightly advanced notice to make the necessary arrangement. the cancellation for my son's alumni's enrichment class earlier in the year came so late (via an sms which I never received but was reflected in her outbox). i took my child there and realised that the class was cancelled for good. I was not the only parent there with the kids. Another child was dropped off by the mum and I loaned him my phone to call his mum to pick him. Obviously, the message wasn't passed through to all!

NCPS laces is stated in the sch rules hor:
                      http://www.ncps.moe.edu.sg/Boy_attire.pdf
                      http://www.ncps.moe.edu.sg/Girl_attire.pdf

Anyway, we taught DS1 to double-tie them & he usually just slips the shoes on & off w/o touching the laces & I'll check once a while to c if they r still secure.

How come didn't ask us to feedback abt the teachers? πŸ˜‰[/quote]BTW, it's the ALUMNI OFFICE that's the prob for this case. Not the vendors because we were not kept in the loop till very last minute too!

E.g. Originally, they told us 23/11/10 is near exams, so no lessons.
Then, on 15/11/10, they suddenly come and tell us (while I was having lesson with the students) that there is lesson on 23/11/10, no lesson on 30/11/10. With such last minute notice, I informed all the students and expected them to pass the message to the parents since Alumni office did not give us any letters to give out on the spot.

Then, on 23/11/10, many of my students did not turn up. Why? The parents did not trust what the kids said, expected letters from Alumni. If it was told to me earlier, I would have prepared a note for parents! Then on 23/11/10, Alumni distributed a note to inform parents that there's no lesson on 30/11/10. A little too late cos so many students were not present that day? And for the enrichment classes, there's no make up lesson or pro-rated fees. If you miss, you lose out!
