Btw, I read that NYPS GEP classes are super hot so not all who applies can get in. Another round of balloting in store? Keke.

My friend (a teacher) told me, priority is given to those who stay nearer and from a SAP school.

Both of which comfy's dd qualifies comfortably. I'm assuming she stays around BT area.

No offence, but I think you shld ask your boy to show you how he used the ruler to check the angle. I need to teach my boy how to place the ruler properly so as to get a proper measurement.

I used a protractor to measure, and its a right angle! Handdrawn angle, should give an allowance of +/- 1-2 deg.

Oh well, then that is even worse than i thought.
Evidence!

          What say you? Right angle?

Any P3 parents intend to march into school and ask them to explain why? Scoring, frankly, is not the main reason why I am doing this. To me, maths and science are facts, what are, are, what are not, are not. I am ok with tricky and challenging questions that stretch kids on their knowledge and applications of concepts learnt, but not cheating questions.

First of all, I would like to thanks Trapwithin, Jennifer,Perwinklejoy, Markfch, Ijj and E3 for your heartfelt :congrats: . I appreciate that. Actually excited and also quite paisay to announcement it here. That why only mentioned it in the GEP thread.

😒 I can't participate in the science and math qns as my dd has taken them to school else I will definitely have alot to say. Like Jennifer has said, must not treat PH papers too serious else can really :x . I, too, am going to put my faith on the PSLE papers as the qns must clear and with a purpose else lot of parents would complain.(tons of them will appear in the forum). πŸ˜‰
I have not decided yet, anyone any suggestion which gep sch to send my dd to? Pl, yes my dd is in CH (I thinik someone ask) and 14 in CH got in.

Mine came home with a grouchy face.

She said for the tiny organism question...they stand uncorrected. FT explained to her...some micro-organisms are tiny, some are very tiny.

For the flower question...the basis is flower will become fruit...so they also stand uncorrected that \"The plant would not bear fruit.\" The fruit hanging on the branch is to be ignored.

For the penguin's beak question....eating includes chewing and swallowing, penguin does not chew, so eating is wrong.

For the right angle question....totally not mentioned.

If I am in my 20s...my blood would have started boiling and rush down in a cab to ask them why why why? πŸ˜›
My boy used ruler to measure, but still thought it is a right angle. so it is a bad question.

not sure. but that is not the point. the point is it is very difficult to gauge anything less than 1 degree error without a protractor. i believe the aim of the question is to test whether the pupil understands the less than 90 degrees concept, not whether their eye can tell between 89 and 90 degrees, so they should make the angle more obvious if they are testing concept...
agree with you. the 1 degree differnence is insignificant.

agree with you. the 1 degree differnence is insignificant.
just spoke to the FT when she called me about another issue. i asked her about this angle thingy and she said the angle is 89 point something and they cannot mark it correct because otherwise they are sending a message to the children that it is a right angle.

She still insisted it is possible to measure it with a ruler and showed the class how to do it. I complained that they should not make questions so vague as they are testing the concept and not how accurate is the eyesight. she agreed that sometimes pupil may have parallax error. she said she will feedback to the dept about it so that it won't recur.

So i guess it is case closed.

Anyone know how many PHPPS kids made it?

                      Congrats, Comfy!

I heard (not verified), only CH3 have kids gg, a total of 14.
Congrats to PH kids who got in to GEP. Frankly speaking PH always has quite a number of kids qualify for GEP every year, not only from CH but also some from Faith and other classes. When is the briefing for the GEP?

Congrats comfy...what to paisay... u should feel proud of yr dd....

would you like to share with us how u and yr dd did in preparation of GEP exam? you and yr dd are our role models now...haha....

we have 14 from CH, maybe another fews from FA, GR, HO & others..
so PHPPS will lose about 20+, almost 1 GEP class...i think most GEP schools have 2 GEP classes per level and about 25 students per class.
the principal would definitely feel sad... losing so many gifted kids to other schools and who know, maybe one of them will be the future top PSLE scholar....
