Pebble, just curious, what's the name of the guzheng instructor at Mee Toh? Has your girl participated at SYF before?

I did not know Mee Toh has guzheng until recently.

      I also play guzheng ๐Ÿ™‚
      Hi Mrs Wong,
้™ˆ่€ๅธˆ, a male instructor. I think this CCA only started this year if I'm not wrong and my girl did not participate at the SYF. So far she only performed at the Teacher's Day Celebration and maybe the upcoming Prize Presentation Day. And next year being PSLE year I doubt she will have the chance either.

Nice \"oriental\" musical instrument, you are very talented !

          Hi Parents

Wondering if anyone can recommend any good tutors nearby. We are staying in Hougang.
DS is in P4 this year and results not anywhere near my low expectations.

Heard that in P5 the work load gets really heavy. Now starting to stress a bit.
Best to start searching to start on P5 work. P5 work is preparation for P6, need to give them a good foundation.

Make use of this month to \"tutor-shop\", ask for trial lessons and sit in the class. Ask the tutor abt strategies he/she intend to use. Experienced tutors can tell which are the weak areas and strategies to improve in 1 lesson. In fact, with just 15 minutes, I can tell you alot about a child by looking at past work and how they behave in front of me.

Just curious, how did your P5 girl cope this year? Mine is under a lot of stress ๐Ÿ˜ž Wondering if others also like him.

Mine has a happy-go-lucky nature hence her stress came mainly from the assessments I gave and not being able to watch her favourite show ็ˆฑ during the exam period. But she did worry that she will get red ink in her report book if she didnt do well.

Your boy is in a very competitive class with high expectation so I believe the teacher must have exerted alot of pressure on them. I have a neighbour's boy who is in 5-8 and he is feeling stressful and worried as well . Just have to keep encouraging them to work hard .. ๅŠ ๆฒน๏ผ

My students from 5-8 and 5-7 are very stressed because of the competitiveness in the class. Iโ€™ve witnessed it myself (how they ask each other about results and their reactions). The kids themselves will request for extra challenging questions to work on.

Those from other classes seem more carefree. Some are motivated to do very well so that they will not end up in those classes again. Some are just โ€˜going with the flowโ€™.

In fact, there are a few classes in which the parents are very upset with the teacher because practically nothing is taught in class.

Pebble, at least your girl is still worried. I have some students who are very proud when they fail papers! Still dare to tell the parents that they are not the worst in class despite failing!

I know what you meant coz I have seen those reactions on my neighbour's boy face when he compared results with my girl and when my girl's results were the same or even beat him by a few marks in some subjects on a few occassions. But I think it's good if the kid has the kiasuism in him so he will strive to do better the next time round.

Sometimes i wonder is it the pupils themselves are competitive or the teacher. My girl is in 4-10, her FT is super kiasu type, always compare her class with the top class, 4-11. But the FT for 4-11 never do that. I donโ€™t like this teacher but many parents requested their kids to be with this teacher should their kids make it to 5-11 next year. To me, too much comparison will make the pupils very tired and lost the fun of learning.
