so can i summarise:

1) if buy a resale project within 1km of the sch, try to buy early so that the whole purchase transaction can be completed before latest say, by 1 Jul 2011, and then u have legal ownership of the place and also move in immediately and thus allowed to change ic immediately so that u are in time to register at subsequent phase whc is around 3rd wk jul?


2) if cant afford to buy, rent a place and move in there before registration date and stay there for extended period also can? most rental agreement are 2 year anyway.
(assume the buyer’s current place has met HDB’s MOP and has also obtained hdb approval to sublet)

any rules broken for 1 and 2?

nope. as long as you are physically staying there, or going to be, there is no issue. But if you are only looking at short term, do factor in the additional transport. These are pri school kids after all, too long transport time will be tiring on them, and on the caregiver (I don't think they can start taking public transport at such tender ages).

if i do buy or rent, it will surely be 1km of the sch, so near that the child can walk to sch. so if can walk to sch, wont want to move away.


will the sch ask the registrant to declare whr the property in IC is rented or owned? if rented, will the applicant be excluded from balloting?
but it doesnt sound right to be excluded. what if i alrady sold my place and just have 1 stay to stay ie the rental plc?

and for low income grp who cant afford to buy hse, does it mean their kids will be excluded from gg to nearby place, theorectically speaking?

How will the school know whether you own or rent the property if you don't declare? :scratchhead:

the moe officer said in the registration it says ‘state ur permanent address’. if urs is rented, it is up to u to declare. if dont declare, i think they wont know unless got pple complain

Hmm... I've always thought that your NRIC should state where you live, regardless of whether the property is owned or rented. And that you do not need to declare if the property is rented, if that is where you truly are living and intend to live for the duration your child is in the school.

If people who rent are excluded from balloting, then I imagine many PRs and even a handful of Singaporeans (who genuinely live near the school) would not qualify.

But as BigDevil says, who would declare if not prompted? This is a little-known \"rule\", is hard to enforce and check, and might I add, a tad unfair. Assuming of course that you are truly living in that rented property.

I saw some post previously with my situation but I didn’t see a reply on the final outcome from the poster.

Situation:
1. Will be selling my flat in Punggol (MOP completed)
2. Buying a private resale property <1km of school of choice (its completed by 2009, but official TOP is 2012) which we will stay once its ready (ie finished reno)
3. Rent a flat in Punggol in the meantime, as my kids have a lot of English and Chinese classes here, plus their current kindergarden school bus is only willing to pick them up from here.

Therefore, if by the time of P1 registration, I’m still renting at Punggol but have the OTP or S&P of the private resale property.

Can I use the address of the private resale property that I bought?

Which document will be required? OTP or S&P?

For children registered in 2010 for P1 in 2011, MOE allowed parents to use address of yet to complete housing as long as the TOP is no later than 31 Dec 2012.

Since you are only registering your child in 2011 or later, you should be very safe to use your new private property that TOP in 2012.
