Hi parents,
Do your P1 kids do any actual PAL stuff during PAL class?
My son tells me that their teacher takes the PAL class to ask them to do corrections for their worksheets or more Maths work!!
PAL is supposed to be doing ‘fun’ things! Not another session for teachers to catch up on the classwork!
No wonder the kids say the only fun classes they have are PE and Art!

Kissgurami:
The violin class is for P1 to P3 students. I was at the 1st lesson yesterday. There were a total of around 14 students, about 2 from P2, 3-4 from P3 and the rest from P1.lilfeets:
Yeap. DD chose to play the Violin.

How is the 1st lesson so far?
I was tempted to sign DD1 for it but it is only for P2 and kind of wasted if she doesnt get to pursue after
The main violin teacher is a nice old lady and she has 4 younger assistants with her to help the kids.
They measure the kids up for the size of the violin, taught them how to hold the violin and the bow, some minor facts about the instrument and the kids managed to play a simple tune during the 1st lesson.
After which, they were tasked to go home and practice placing the violin on the shoulder and play the simple tune at home. -

Yes, my son also mentions that his Chinese teacher tends to shout at them a lot as several of the kids in class are more in-attentive then most…

RE: Maris Stella High
Does any parent have any ideas on how the Chinese test is going to be like next week? My DS is in 1I and I got the email from his Chinese teacher about the test yesterday morning.
Looking at it, there’s lots for him to cover!
Chinese textbook 1A from Lesson 1 to 6 and the hypy small booklet from pages 5 to 18!! -

RE: KTKLN for indo maid?
Hi everyone,
Just came back from the Indonesian embassy today. Put my maid’s passport in for home leave processing, then I went up to 2nd floor to ask anout the KTKLN.
They have this handout printed (its in Bahasa Indonesian) but it doesn’t explained much. I printed out the online form from the website earlier to ask for a translation and what to fill in. Some of the data required include the maid’s ID card#, parents and grandfather name and address (I don’t know why they need grandfather name…), maid agency name, employer details, the maid’s monthly salary, home leave visa# (therefore I have to wait till I get back her passport after home leave application if I want to apply online), etc.
The embassy person was kind enough to explain all the fields to me and provided some info.
The joke is that he informs me that even though you apply online, you can only collect it at the offices in Indonesia (the handout gave the addresses of the offices in the various states) AND the maid have to apply for insurance (1yr about 170,000RP; 2yr about 290,000RP). They have not setup the process to apply and issue the card in the embassy overseas.
I asked what is this insurance for as we have already got insurance coverage for the helper when she works for us, even the embassy staff says he doesn’t know what the additional insurance if for and he would also like to know the reason!
Furthermore, he informs me that even some Indo professionals working in SG have trouble applying for the card. Even though they applied online, somehow the e-application had problem or didn’t went through. Therefore, they end up going to the offices in Indonesia to apply again.
In the end, I’ve asked my maid that the 1st thing she does when she’s back home is to go to the nearest office and apply for the card. Going to give her the money for the insurance as well (290,00RP is about SG$42)
Sigh…looks like another layer of paperwork to go through…and don’t even know what’s the justification for this… -
RE: KTKLN for indo maid?
Same here, my Indo maid is going back in Aug 2011 and I just bought her air-ticket. Am going to the embassy to apply the home leave just saw the article about the KTKLN card.
So far, I can only find some websites saying that the link to apply is this -> http://ktkln.bnp2tki.go.id/
However, its all in Bahasa Indonesian. Can someone confirm that this is the correct site to apply for the card? -
RE: All About Home Addresses
Update with email reply from MOE. This should answer the question if you can use the re-sale private property address for registration but have not moved in yet.
"We would like to share with you that based on the current guideline, the address used for the registration of a child (assuming Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident) during the Primary 1 registration exercise is based on the family’s permanent address i.e. staying at this address on a long-term basis.
However as you have mentioned that you will only be able to shift in probably after the Primary 1 registration exercise, we would like to advise you that you will be able to use your new private resale condo address for the purpose of registration if you are able to produce the following required original documents for the registration.
- Legal document - Signed copy of the Option to Purchase Letter;
- Bank approval letter to show payment of down payment or house loan;
- Any legal documents to prove that parents are the legal owner of the new property.
- Any other legal documents related to this purchase of new property.
Please also note that parents will be asked to sign a letter of undertaking that they will move into the property by the commencement of the school term. "
