Agree with you. This was indeed one of the important considerations we had when choosing Sec school for our DS. For students who can make the COP for RI/RGS and HCI/NGHS, they are not extremely weak in either language, hence it is beneficial for them to go to a school with an environment \"opposite\" of their relative strength.jtoh
Statement base on personal encounters with parents from my work place, kids' schools, church, friends and media. It also includes applying the principle of comparative advantage.
Right enviroment is the key to learning a language. A pupil who is strong in MT and wants to improve english, the natural choice is RI/RGS as oppose to HCI/NGHS. Similary, if a pupil wishes to improve Higher chinese, the choice is HCI/NGHS. Obviously, all are factors must be taken into account. Think for a moment, why pupils from China arrived here few yrs ago are able to excel in english within a relatively short time?. The answer is 'positive enviroment'. If parents of pri 1 going kids are able to adopt this practice, the hotly debated topic of lowering the weightage for MT no longer stand.
Parents must hve courage to exercise their choices. -

Your son is blessed with a parent like you. Your decision has a positive impact on him in the long run.
An increasing number of students who obtained distinction Higher Chinese hve also opted to improve english by choosing ACS Independent as their school of choice. That’s also goes to top chinese girls/boys choosing RGS/RI to improve their english.
As we enter the next decade and beyond, kids like wonderm’s son shall benifit immensely from wise parents. -

Unbelievable how time flies…the day i dread/look forward to is in a week’s time ! would like to ask, will you be accompanying your kids to school to collect the results? DH said he went to get his psle results on his own and said ds should do that. Regardless what he said, i am going with ds definitely. but not sure about the timing, and whether i should take a full day off or just half a day and if half a day, am or pm? any advice?

Suggest you reach school around 1115hrs and not later than 1130hrs. Soak in the atmosphere. Many kids are accompanied by their parents, which has been a practice for many yrs. Ask yr kid to sit in the front row if you are pretty confident, just in case name being called up.
Results will be annouced after 12 noon. -

2. You will be very busy in deciding which schools to choose from, and
3. You may have to visit the schools of your choices,
4. lastly, you will be busy with this forum to join in the gossiping... eg. COP of particular school up or down etc.. -

I will be way for training oversea, dd will accompany ds to school. -
Result will be BEFORE noon. Around 10+ to 11+am. If you take half day afternoon, by the time you reach school, game is over.

All schools are only allowed to release psle result at 12noon sharp. Good luck to all P6 students!
