My kid's school is only giving out prizes to the first of each class, first in school and first in each subjects. Was told this is the norm of every school? I would have thought at least top 3 in class? What's yours like?

For my dd's school

top 3 in each class - certificates presented in class
top 10 in each level - trophies presented during prize presentation ceremony

No cash prizes for my dd's school though.

My DD's sch gives out the following awards:
P1-P6 - Top 2 students in each class
- Good progress Award
- Caring Award
P4-P6 - EAGLES award (for leadership, service to sch & community)
P5-P6 - Top in each subject

Yep...and top 5 awards are also given not according to their class position.

For DS school,


=Top 3 in each class.
= Overall Top in each level

This is the 1st time I'm attending so don't know the school is giving out trophy or certificates. Maybe have both item I think.

DS3's sch has been giving prizes to PSLE scorers of 250 and above for previous years. Last year has seen the best results in terms of no of students scoring above 250 (15 of them compared to about 3 to 8 previously) and the sch has changed the cut off point to 255 and above for prizes. Also wonder if it is due to budget constraint. If next year the no of students scoring above 250 drops, wonder if they'll change it back to 250 and above. DS3 and his friends who scored between 250 and 254 will not get anything. They were disappointed cos they were lined up as top scorers during the results announcement and their classmates have been calling and checking among themselves who would be going to sch to collect their prizes. Now some of them so :oops: :oops: that they are getting nothing after all the :celebrate: :celebrate: :stupid: :stupid:

DS3's sch gives top 3 in each class and top in each subjects. IMHO, giving top 5% or 10% or top 5 or 10 in level is fairer. DS3 always commented that it was not fair that though his classmates and himself are from the best class and done much better than the top 3 in other classes, they don't get a prize and wish that they were in the other classes (so that they'll emerge top and get prizes). Of course, it's not what they really wanted as the prize is very low in value and not really worth hankering over it. Therefore, MOE method of giving the top 25% for edusave award and top 5% and 10% edusave scholarships is much fairer.

In addition, one of my students improved his performance from 69% to 82% year on year and his class position from 17 to 5. He was not given the Good Progress Award even though I'm sure he qualifies for it. So, how much improvement is needed to get this award :?
