      Hi Blissfulmum!

If I were you, I wouldnโ€™t transfer my sons to RMPS. However, I would consider sending DS2 to schools that offer GEP. As such, I would wait till he go through the GEP before I take any action with regards to the transfer.

Your sons are happy in ZDPS, and I personally think that they will not perform well if they are not happy in the new environment. Your sons are resistant to the idea of changing school, so why rock the boat? Of course, there is always a possibility that they will equally like the environment in RMPS. But, this is a chance that you will have to decide whether it is worth seizing.

If you think your DS2 is insufficiently challenged in ZDPS, that is where parents should play a part, too. You may like to send him for other enrichment courses or challenge him outside the school. Bring his level up yourself. Challenge him to perform to a certain standard. During our recent PTM, my boyโ€™s teacher said that we should not rely on the school too much. The school has to cater to other students and if the general population is of a certain standard, do you expect the school to raise the standard just to suit your child?

Since your DS2 will be in P3 next year, the situation may be different with the addition of Science. In any case, if your DS2 is like what is mentioned, he will be able to pass the GEP test, even though you think he wonโ€™t. Let your DS2 go through P3 to experience the full curriculum before you take further actions.

Of course, I understand that if you were to give up this chance of a transfer, you may not get it again next time. However, if your DS2 is truly gifted, with his superior results, I am sure many schools will welcome him with open arms.

The above is just based on my personal and humble opinion. At the end of the day, our children need to be happy in the schools they are in.

      Good Luck!

Are they having 8 classes next year for P1? Because there are only 7 'mascots' :?

Well, the intake is 240. So, if each class is allowed 30 pupils only, there should be 8 classes.

Wonder if they do engrave the names in a plaque that hangs somewhere in the school  The Top standard students have the honors.. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I doubt so. Top student's name only for PSLE. Schools generally have that.

I think the children are more used to calling it The diary, where they record their daily homework/ instructions from teacher (if any).

My boy lost his diary! :stupid:

I remember there was someone here who mentioned his or her child will be in 'Beatrice' class for P1 next year...
Yes, witty22's daughter will be in Beatrice class next year.

:thankyou: Titank for your kind advice and sharing...

Your DS1 is P4 now? I assuming that he was born in the year of the dragon & during the P1 registration, the competition was very fierce. You just requested to transfer in 2010? Perhaps you consider lucky as there are parents being trying since they are in P1.

I agree wtih QMS that if your boys are happy at ZDPS, then there's no need to switch to Radin Mas. Coz i don't think the standard between these 2 schools are that far apart.

Changing school means, having to get to used to a new environment, friends, teachers. I think it's rather disruptive at this stage, eps when he's already in P4.

                  Hi Blissfulmum!

In addition to what preggie mentioned, you have to be prepared - what happens if your DS2 faces the same situation in Radin Mas? Does it mean you are going to transfer him out again until you find a school that suits him? :scratchhead:

In fact, I agree with preggie that the standards between the two schools are that that different. If you look at the top PSLE scorers of the schools, you will notice that the difference is not that significant.

                      Dear QMS

Thank you for your kind advise. I did had the same thoughts as u, why rock the boat?

I went to RMPS to collect the letter of acceptance this morning. They required me to come back to them with my boys' report books on the same day for their update.

I went back to ZPS with a heavy heart. I met DS2 form teacher and he said, althought DS2 is in Band 1, but he is still not up to his standard and expectation. He was quite disappointed with his results in some ways, DS2 came in fifth in his class.

But he felt that probably he may excel in a change environment. Then I moved on to see the school counsellor who has been \"watching\" DS2 since he has been very \"active\" in school. The school counsellor has always adores him and was the one was had asked me either to go search for a better school which can stimulates him further, if not wait for P3 - GEP. As I have mentioned, I didn't opt for the latter cos i really don't think DS2 will be chosen. Like you, the school counsellor also didnt agree with me and she strongly believes that HE CAN DO IT. But she is very glad that RMPS has accepted him. Cos she felt that DS2 is not naughty or a trouble maker but he is just BORED in school. ๐Ÿ˜ž

With her assurance, I had proceeded to send the report books to RMPS earlier and had completed the transferals.

I can see why DS1 is ready to move, cos he is worried he can't cope. DS2's reason is plain silly, cos he said he will missed swimming class in P3 cos he saw his brother having swimming lessons for PE when he started P3.

Let see how it goes... my hubby said, i waited so long.. almost a year + for this.. so dun sway anymore liao.. my colleague said, trust my first instinct and why i wanna move them in the first place.

Now , i will leave their fate to \"God\".. yes, i do agreed that parents has do to a play in nuturing our children and cannot soley rely on school.

Both my boys are doing KUMON, for 3 yrs now.. DS2 had received SILVER in Maths for first year, and the following 2 yrs in GOLD. I also send them for enrichment camps during school holiday, chinese, science, art.. whatever.. he is also doing Taekwando and Swimming for leisure... what else should I or can I do further? I don't know .. really..

Anyway, thanks parents for your kind advice.. and wish me luck ๐Ÿ™‚

Perhaps you can let your DS2 know that RMPS has swimming for PE for all P3s, too. So, he won't miss anything that his brother has gone through.

Glad that you have made a decision. Now that you have made the decision, it's time to move forward, and not think too much.

We look forward to your contribution in KSP.com, since we do not see that many parents whose children are in higher levels contributing here. So far, it has been the P1 parents talking to each other. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Of course, :welcome: to the RMPS family! We all ๐Ÿ™ hard for our children to perform well in all aspects, too.
