Hi mummies & daddies,
There are so many montessori schools around so need feedback fm u which one is good? Any good ones in Toa Payoh region? Kindly advise. Thks! -
I am living around upperBT and looking for the childcare center for my girl. heard that Modern Montessori Pre-School Centre@Bukit Panjang will move to the beauty world center.
Any review for this MMI? -
Hi Buds,
I've been reading this thread with lotsa interest and am amazed with your knowledge on Montessori phonics. Your kids are very fortunate to have u as their mummy cum teacher 24/7. haha.
I have a question to ask you. How do we use the Large Movable Alphabets? As in how is it supposed to be used, and what activities can complement it?
My son has mastered all alphabet recognition A-Z as well as their individual phonetic sounds. And I recently started teaching him the 2-letter words like 'at', 'ab', 'ad', 'an' etc...as starters to the 3-letter word blending when he is ready. Though he doesnt really show much interest in this, as much as individual letter sounds, I think its just a matter of patience and daily practice, am I right? Or is there a better method to go about teaching this? I do not want to rush him into anything too tough...just going with the flow. Would be great to hear ur advice!

Heyya pumpkin_pie, i'm not so much abt mass knowledge honestly...
it's more of just me sharing my experience in the years i've been teaching it.
The plus is i suppose is that i have extreme passion in what i do and i'm loving it!
It makes me happy just talking and sharing about it.
Many parents have PMed me... posted queries to me with regards to moving
on from single letter sounds techniques onwards and i suppose it is high time i
work on sharing a bit on that to get some of you out there started especially
those parents who have completed the 26 single letter sounds effectively.
By effectively i mean the children can pronounce all the sounds accurately,
correspond all the letter sounds with the letter shape, recognize all the letter
shapes (alphabets) and how it is/should be properly written and better
still if the child can already pre-write.... as it will prove to be a plus during
revision. Phonics shouldn't be just abt rushing the reading fluency & diction
but a complete package of knowing sight words, the written word and also
reading in sentences... not just decode words effectively. Parents should make effort to work everything in tandem and not just get the children to
read and read and just ..... well.... read. It will kill the joy of learning to read.
While some children do not mind the process learning for the sake of it... i
personally prefer my children and students to learn for the love of it.
Many still do not believe it, but it truly does make the teaching experience
a more joyful one and not a stressful one. When children love what they
are doing or learning, they have the ability to learn even faster!
There are many techniques offered in the market and it's a matter of how
to interest our children to do it really... I will try to find time to come up with
a more detailed sharing with regards to this. But i gotta say, this has to wait
in line as i'm in the midst of preparing another sharing on Montessori Math
promised to another parent as well. Yeah... ... got lotsa back log. :politebleah:
Keep the questions coming and i will try to get back to each and everyone
when i have the time to do so. Your interest and interesting questions help
keep me sane and updated since i have not been in the force for sometime
now.... but mebbe returning soon.

Hi buds,
Can I have yr opinion on which Montessori schools to choose for my coming 18 months girl? Preferably to be around Toa Payoh area or Central area. There are so many in the market and itβs really confusing as to which is a better pick. What do you think about Julia Gabriel Chiltern House East Coast? I know itβs a different approach in their teachings but any comments whether are they good?
To other mummies & daddies out there, pls feel free to make yr comments. Yr feedback is much appreciated. Thanks! -
