Promotion from Year 4 - Year 5 is subjected to the requirements of GPA to be met, which is different from the calculation of points for students who are applying to join from other schools for senior high level.
CCA will be converted to GPA points depending on level of attainment. Details and calculation can be found in the student handbook provided to students by the school.

Quite a lot of self directed learning involved, including homework. Each student will be issued with a school's email account and you have to check it daily as the teacher may communicate the homework assignments needed to be completed including the deadlines via email so if you dont check it, you may miss out on the required assignments.
If your child is disciplined and does own studying / homework without need for constant monitoring and nagging.
is self directed & likes unstructured learning like project work etc, he/she should be fine.
School officially starts at 8am but you have to reach school gate physically by about 7.45am / 7.50am to reach to the hall/class or you will likely be late for school.
On Wednesdays school starts at 9am, reach about 8.45am will be fine. HBL days are on Wednesdays on certain weeks but sometimes on HBL days also have to go back to school if its required.
School dismissal is generally around 3.20pm if you have no remedial classes, MEP / 3rd language classes.
For CCA days, twice a week dismissal is at 6pm (official timing) but sometimes actual dismissal time is 6+pm if it overruns.
On other days if required eg for SYF rehearsals or for performance rehearsals also have to stay back after school till about 6+pm.
Thanks for sharing.
Have another question on the promotion criteria to year 5. In neighbour schools, there’s CCA points advantage when applying to JC so in DHS, promotion to year 5, will there be such consideration? -

Thanks for sharing. It seems like the life is not easy for upper sec onwards but looking at it on a positive note, it’s also a good exposure for the kids to train on handling stress. Once again. thanks for sharing.
There is quite a bit of self directed learning. From my limited understanding as my son doesn’t share much about his classes, there will be a lecture uploaded before the class starts. They are supposed to view it before lesson and clarify their doubts during lessons. The teachers are really passionate about their jobs, and I have seen many times that they have extra online chemistry lessons, maths lesson during weekends. The amount of homework that they have during school holiday is quite crazy too compared to my daughter’s neighbourhood school. During last year, when my son was in Sec 3, he broke down into tears as he was stressed over his Chinese O level exams and also a project work from STEM. I think as parents we just have to lend a listening ears and encourage the kids to exercise to reduce stress level. Despite all the stress that my son faces, I feel that DHS is a good school. The teachers are encouraging and over these four years, I find my son grew into a confident and a motivated individual.[/quote] -

If I remember correctly, all days, start school at 8am except for Wednesday at 9am.
School ends at 2pm without CCA, EM (elective module), third language, MEP (music) and ASP (Art) .
EM, third lang, MEP, ASP are not compulsory.
As for HBL for year 1, will start slightly later due to waiting to get their pld.
Normally is for 2 weeks will have 1 day HBL...
Thanks for sharing. The start time seems good for those who drag to wake up early though it stretches the ending time later. -

Hi,
May I understand the degree of self directed learning in DHS? As I understand that most IP schools emphasize more on self directed learning, will the child be able to cope well? How’s the intensity of the teachers’ coaching in class? Will it be more of self learning approach and lesser on teachers’ guidance? Hope somebody can share their experiences. Also, can anyone share the school hours as well? Read from the previous post, the school will be starting at 8am and ending at 3pm excluding CCA? Will there be any HBL days? -

Oh thanks! At least the school is not that strict in this aspect.
It’s ok, no need to worry. My child is wearing just plain white socks (no ankle socks) and that is acceptable by the school as well. -

Previously, teacher did check on the students occasionally but not sure about now. My younger one never got checked but elder one did. Guess can still buy it when school starts. Just tell teacher didn't manage to buy the socks if checked. It's covid time so not all will be able to get everything before school starts. ; )
Thanks! -

Oh no…we were there to purchase the uniforms & books but nobody told us about the socks. We have missed out on the socks purchase. Is it alright to wear normal white socks instead?
Yes, students are required to wear the cchm socks on school days. -
RE: Chung Cheng High (Main)
Hi,
Can anyone advise whether is it necessary to wear CCHMS socks?
