My girl is currently in P1, OLGC. Thanks to d low birthrate in '03, we managed a slot for her w/o having to ballot.

I must say that she is very comfortable in school, teachers r supportive towards child's learning needs & school is very ON. U'll get newsletters, e-mails & smses fm form teachers to notify parents on urgent matters like test dates, events, etc. :lol:

just based on speaking and they stream? kinda unfair but again, its only primary 1 and maybe the teachers want to ensure the get the kids of the same wave-length together. however, what if the kid that particular day don't wish to communicate? why you ask them the reason for such \"streaming\"?

I rmred my daughter was given a set of english & maths qns. But it was really simple according to my DD. D communication tingy is juz some kind of ice-breaker stuffs so that d girls don't feel so lost i gez.

Hi @chic_mom, I’m glad to hear these good things about the school! My daughter is really excited to go and can’t seem to wait (weird, no? :-).


The only thing we worry about is our young one who will now be attending K1 alone next year… she’s quite sticky to her older sister and has already told us she doesn’t want to go to school because her sister wouldn’t be there

Anyone out there whose daughter has been assigned to P1 Grace next year?


I was impressed with the way they handled the girls at the orientation on Saturday. I was worried that my daughter would freak out and refuse to go into the classroom but she just strolled straight in and seemed very happy afterwards.

I wasn’t blown away by the Principal and the other presentations - a bit disorganised in the flow & presentation but all the information was there and I’m impressed with the way they will be settling in the P1s in January. They seem to understand that it may not be easy for all of them.

My daughter has been assigned 1 Perseverance. I think it will take her quite some time before she can even spell her class name Fortunately, I believe the "1P" shortened form is also in use at the school!

Agree that the girls seemed to enjoy the classroom time. She came out with a list of English words and Chinese HYPY. I guess the school wants us all to help ensure that our kids are familiar with all the words listed before the first day. Probably helps to make sure all the kids are on a more or less equal footing.

I found the orientation briefing for parents longer than necessary. Had the same feeling about the Principal’s speech, felt she was rambling a bit. She would have done better if she had prepared a list of things to go through instead of "winging" it.

The handbook was pretty informative and we took the time to read it while waiting for the briefing to end. If, like us, you dozed off a bit during the presentation, the slides (PDF) are available on the school’s website now.

Hi .. my dd would be in P5 next year and looking forward to being a buddy sisters to the P1s.


Both my 2 elder daughters (ages 21 and 17) were also from OLGC .. and I'm also an old girl myself!!

I am a former CHIJ OLGC student :). You have made the right choice for your child :). I know the principal sometimes go long winded. We all DREADED her speech. We used to time how long she talked- it could run up till like 30 MINS!!

The school is a really great school. It looks after thr young very well and teaches great values. The highest PSLE score was in 2009- 280. It has an affiliated school called St Joseph Convent in Senkang. Its a great school and the bond between teachers and students are very strong.

How are all the new P1s settling in?


My daughter seems to be handling it well but they are taking things very slowly I think.

Agreed, things moving rather slowly. Was getting a little worried when

my daughter returned from school a couple of times saying "school is so boring".
Yesterday, she came home exclaiming, "I finally have homework!"
Not sure if that’s a good sign or not.
Hubby and I have decided to observe and not question school’s action/inaction for the time being.

Any interesting sharings from your daughter?
