Hi, just saw a kawai K25 at a piano shop in Pomo, been told it is 8year old. How can i confirm its age? It is safe to buy a piano without warranty?

You can check the manufacturing year from the serial #.

        Hi Swallow,
I bought a kawai k3 (in 2007), 121 cm. Paid slightly above $6000 for it. Price could have shot up over the years due to the rise in yen.

Hi justcoping, how is the K3 so far for the past 3 years or so? i sort of interested in getting a K3.

Just wodering, is it tre the resale value of Yamaha U1 is better than K3? Just incase, both my DDs hate piano.

K3 has served me fine. I had the same worries initially abt whether my children will hate piano. Ds was not so keen so I was really reluctant to buy a brand new piano. what made matters worse was that he would sometimes 'bang' on the keys (rather rough with the piano). Was afraid that he would spoil the piano. That's why I got a second hand first. When dd started to learn and began to show promise of long term use and ds became more mature, I decided to invest in a good one.Traded in the old er kawai for a new one. I had the 2nd hand piano for abt 3 years and the brand new for another 3 plus years. I'm glad to say it's not a white elephant (at the moment, keeping my fingers crossed).

Fyi, my sis bought a second hand yamaha piano from a person whose child had given up playing. She saw the advert/ notice at the crestar yamaha school (not sure if they still have the practice). Contacted the person and went to the place to view. The piano was only 8 yrs old. She had to arrange for her own delivery though. Till date, her children are still using it. (about 8 years down the road). So u might want to look out for such buys.

I have viewed the 2nd hand piano from Christofori year end sales today. Am thinking to buy Yamaha U3E > 30 years old, cost $4599. Is it expensive?

            U3E. What does 'E' mean?
            Seem expensive considering its age

                Tks for the advice,

But the kawai k25 was taken when i brought my daughters piano teacher down to test the piano this afternoon. I was shown a 10yr old yamaha u1 costing much more despite being older than the kawai i was eyeing. My piano teacher owns and think kawai has better sound, what is your opinion?

                Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I can't help you on which to get, i think it's a matter of personal preferance. Once bitten twice shy for me. Gave up hunting for usd piano after kena conned by a supposedly \"reputable\" shop (i lost $200 deposit). At that time, i didn't know can check the serial #. The shop owner told me the piano was aroung 15 years. Luckily i took nite of the serial number to check (though after i paid full but not delivered to my place). The serial # indicates that it's built in 1960s!!!. When i confronted him, he said i heard wrongly - he said ABOVE 15 years, 40 years is above 15 years, not wrong ma. :x

Kawai vs Yamaha, it’s a long-standing competition. They both have different qualities and as mentioned by many, it boils down to personal preference. Both companies have a long history with good R & D and they do make decent pianos. Yamaha has an edge in a generally slightly higher demand in S’pore.
