      Hi,

just to check what kind of assessments we should buy for GEP subjects. Is normal HCL assessment sufficient for GEP HCL?
Do we just rely on the schools for the supp worksheets. What can we buy to help the child? Anything in Popular? I would not want to send my child for tuition if possible. He’ll be in P4 next yr.

      Thanks for your feedback.

A friend told me that there is this ‘Edusave Scholarship’ that is given out at Pri5 for the top 10% (I think) fo each level and stream. This is different from the one that was given when students were in P1 to P4 as it is regardless of income level. That means, if the child qualifies for the scholarship at P5, he/she can get the award (my friend mentioned $300?) regardless of family income.

Does any parent know how this 10% will be derived for kids in GEP?

I think it is based on overall % including HCL or CL but the two are not separately considered. If there are 55 GEP pupils in your batch in your school, 10% means only 5 of them will get it. if among them are 3 PRs then only the top 2 citizens will get it.

My child's chinese has also improved a lot!

Recently his tutor bought a P5 HCL revision workbook and he was quite pleased that the comprehension questions were similar to the P4 GEP HCL questions - i.e. have to compose your own answers and cannot \"copy and adapt\" from the passage.

Didn't want to dampen his spirits but was wondering whether the P5 GEP HCL comprehension questions were similar to the P4 GEP HCL comprehension? Any difference in type of questions?

            Thanks in advance for sharing.
            Ksmom8,
Can you share which HCl revision workbook is this? My DS is very poor in his compre (well actually he is poor in most of the HCL components), it will be good if I can find something that can help him. Thanks!

I think you are referring to http://www.moe.gov.sg/initiatives/edusave/funds-grants-awards/

Same criteria apply to GEP...you need to be top 10% in the level of the GEP cohort of your school to qualify. For example, if there are 50 P5 GEP students, you need to be among the top 5 to qualify for this award.

For GEP, it is that difficult due to the small cohort for each level within a school. But if your GEP kids has achieve level top 5 in the year, he or she will be expecting to receive the yearend hangbao notification by post, provided the school did not forget to submit his/hers name.

For mainstream, if you are in a school with bigger population, and a less competitive neighbourhood school, it will be easier to get. They do not pick the top 10% S Citizen. They pick the top 10% and leave out non-citizen, so depend on where the non-citizen crowd, usually the west.

If a student is in a lower std school, being in the top 10% of that school is much easier than being in the top 10% of a GEP cohort.

I think it's $400 for the top 5% for upper primary cos my DS received it last year, and $300 for the next 5% which was what my neighbour received. Another friend's DD received $150 for having made gd progress in her P6 year. In my district, the govt official tasked with awarding all these cheques was Lim Hng Kiang.

If my memory serves me correctly, the wording in the letter said something to the effect that you must attend the ceremony in order to collect the cheque (implying absence will result in the money being forfeited?).
