Hello
I just came across this forum today. Thank you for keeping this forum and provide valuable inputs.
My daughter who scored 257 and she is from non affiliated school from Jurong)
I would like to enroll in Secondary school. I live in the West (Jurong west extension).
I am totally confused on selecting secondary school. I was thinking Methodist Girls secondary school. Some suggested Crescent Girls school. One of my relatives suggested Raffles Girls school. I am bit confused.
Please provide your inputs I appreciate.
Thanks -

Thank you jtoh. In RGS 2008 COP was 263. In 2009 it came down to 260.
I don't think your chances of getting into RGS is good as COP last year was 260. MGS is a good school and with your aggregate you can consider joining their Sophia Blackmore programme which is a school-based gifted education programme. Furthermore, you'll enjoy bonus points for entry into ACJC.nancy27sg:

How did overall Score in Singapore this year?
Another main concern I have is, RGS most students will be high score (270 etc). My daughter is at the lower end so in school she may be pressed hard and compete with high achievers. This is one of my concern.
Any advise?
Thanks -

Thanks[/quote]Hi nancy,
My guess is that COP for RGS this year will be around 259/260. I don't think it'll go lower than that but there's no harm in your dd trying out for it.
It is true that RGS has a lot of high achievers and girls scoring >270. How your dd copes depends on her character. I have seen girls come in at the lower end of the COP and rise to the occasion, doing reasonably well in their exams. I have also seen girls who come in with mid-270 who perform dismally at the exams.
So if your dd is confident, a go-getter and isn't hung up about comparing herself to others, then she can give RGS a shot. She should put MGS as 2nd choice because of the reasons I mentioned earlier. She should be able to get into MGS, no problem. -

my ds got into express with a score of 200. he wont be able to get into his affiliated secondary school since the school’s COP is 225. does this mean i should not even list it as his first choice?
schools in our list include:
pierce cop 208
monfort cop 206
holy innocent cop 219
guangyang cop 203
chong boon cop 190
bartley cop 193
ankss cop 227
mayflower cop 222
beatty cop 217
or should i be looking at cop ranging from 188 upwards?
appreciate your advice thanks! -

normally COP for affiliated primary school tends to be lower. so when you say COP of 225, is it for affiliated or non-affiliated primary schools?my ds got into express with a score of 200. he wont be able to get into his affiliated secondary school since the school's COP is 225. does this mean i should not even list it as his first choice?

if your ds's score is 200, then i think you should not consider those with cop >205. Although COP may drop, but I doubt it will drop so much. -

My advise is to make your 6 choices very carefully as you will be posted to any other school by MOE in the event that all 6 choices don't meet.
