Hi all.
My dd scored 260 + 2 (HCL). She is trying to decide between Cedar Girls and Dunman High. Her main concern is that she is not really good in her CL and therefore may not be able to do well in Dunman High. Please advise. Thanks

will the school entertain such query , they might not even know the new COPWould like to add something I wrote on Cedar Girls topic.
My friend who scored 242 is appealing to Cedar Girls. The office staff told her parents and her (I was there but was sitting on the couch) that my friend's chances were slim and that the COP is likely to go up due to going-to-be-IP status.
For those on borderline case, perhaps call up the school to check so that you will not waste your precious 6 choices ? -

Sorry, not familiar with these schools. However, I know someone with 2 daughters in North Vista. Her elder daughter (Sec 2 this year) don't really like the school, but her younger sister (sec 1 this year) find the school alright. My friend believe is due to the classmates that the children have. Thanks for sharing.. xei xei ni..
what is your opinon on the following school:
1) Pei Hwa
2) Seng Kang
3) Peirce
4) North Vista
5) Bartley
I understand that there is a new school in Punggol (cannot recall the name). Usually a new school is good as the principal and teachers will work hard to ensure that their pioneer batch of students will do well in \"O\" or \"N\" exam, so as to set a good reputation for the school. You may want to consider the new school.
Thank U very much for your advise. I am fortunate to find this website to seek help from the professional like you.

Partly because of Chinese too.
Perhaps Augmum and 25hourmaid can give some advice?
You can also browse through this topic to search for answers or hop over to Cedar Girls and Dunman High topics to have a look. Augmum did mention a little of the chinese standard in Cedar Girls Secondary topic. ^^
Congratulations on your DD results ! They are great ! -

You may want to consider MGS if distance is not an issue to you.
yes i heard MGS produce gd results too
went to open house today at cedar and also SCGS. Surprise that SCGS though an independent school in which the girls have to pay a hefty fees of close to $300 per month is so run down. The classrooms' chairs and tables are all in a very sorry state. The parade square tiles are blackish and greenish in which the girls are expected to sit every morning for assembly. No offence to any SCGS current and old girls. That's just what I honestly feel as 1st impressions.PCYYH:

so we can make them friends ok ?? haha .. Actually still thinking over between SCGS and Cedar, think more of SCGS now ... -

I'm not sure but the school did tell my friend that COP likely to go up. Maybe by a few points ?

Please don't throw stones at me if I'm wrong, this is purely what I heard from my friend almost immediately after the school told her that.
I'm just sharing what I know to contribute back to this forum.^^ -

Your argument is beginning to sound like a joke.
HCJC being one of the oldest JC can't alone account for the fact that it produced the most president scholars. There must be quite alot of good students from other good secondary schools (such as RI and RGS) to account for it. As I have said, TCHS and NYGS don't produced more than 5 for the last 20-30 years. The other dozens that HCJC have produced must come from other secondary schools...evrybody can go and figure which other secondary schools can produce so many president scholars.WeiHan:
HCJC produced the most President Scholars is because it is one of the olderest JC around as compared to RJC which only started in 1982.
You need to compare apples to apples. If you add up the number of years that RJC was RI Pre-U (predecessor), you would have realise that RJC/RI would be 1st lah.
The fact that there wasn't 30-50 as you claim...even that is not consider many out of a cohort of 400 for RI and 400 for RGS =800.
who you trying to kid ?
How many president scholars are there in a year ?
You can count on your figures, It is an average of only 5 a year.
So you are basing that to say \"many\" people from Ri/RGS goes to HCJC ?
Do you realise how ridiculous your claims are ?
I think you don't understand the point. There are 50 president scholars from HCJC over the years. Only around 5 were from TCHS and NYGS school combined. How do you account for the other nearly 3-4 dozens?
My answer is that many were from RGS (maybe not RI)
And I also want to correct your view that 90% of RI and RGS proceed on to RJC. It is simply not true in the older days when the cutoff point of RJC was 7-8 (that is very good score in older days) and the average L1B5 of RI and RGS was 8 or 9. Many simply can't make the score for entry into RJC. Moreover, some that make the score prefer schools like HCJC, NJC or VJC. The size of each cohort of JC in those days were 700-800, not the over 1000 nowaday. RJC and HCJC in those days were really not as monolithic in its student intake as you think.
I really don't want to split hair over scores or number of scholars etc...I don't keep statistics but a simple google gave me this site which shows that HCJC was top in at least 2003 and 2004. But you may complain why based on number of 4 distictions, why not other measures?

I was there too with my DD. A parent spoke to the VP re the daughter chance of getting in. The Daughter was scoring 23something. The VP is very honest and spoke in a kind manner that there is no chance as she believes alot of the high end 24 something and 250s will apply for Cedar this year which i believe too as it is really a nice school with good ambience and impressive programmesWould like to add something I wrote on Cedar Girls topic.

I was waiting with my friend for her parents to arrive at the general office. There, we met our classmate. Her parents were talking to this male guy with another parent. This male guy whom I presumed to be the VP, entertained all the questions my classmate's parents were asking. He seemed to me as a really nice VP/Staff/Teacher as he did not seem to be irritated by the questions but instead answered them nicely. I was impressed. This is definitely a school I want to go. It may not be independent, but the whole school gave me an impression that it is very high-class. I really liked the school.
