Someone asked in another thread whether anyone knows (feels) the number of students score above 250 has increased/ decreased.

To answer this question, we need to know what is the COP for 3rd Lang (top 10%). This COP is usually around 250. Last year was 248. With this info, we can estimate whether there is an increase/ decrease of the numbers of student scored between 250 and 259.

We already knew 260 is the top 3% (EESIS awards). Therefore the ppl scored 260 and above is 45000 x 3% = 1350

With these info, we can then estimate whether the COPs for IP and top tier O levels schools will drop/ increase by how many points.

FYI, the total vacancies of the IP schools can cater up to top 5% ~ 7% of the cohort.

if 250 remains as the magic number for the top 10% of each cohort, then those 250 and above is roughly 4500 - and take away 1350 being top 3% with EESIS, that means 250-259.9999 = 4500-1350 = 3150

Since the top 3% drops 1 point to 260 while the Top 10% COP is 250 which is 2 points higher than last year's of 248. Does this means we will encounter something different this year for schools COP point. The Top few schools COP will drop while the subsequent ones will increase as the students are pack closer together? The bell curve is no longer stretched like last year but is a packed pointy curve this year.

So the top schools will have to reach lower to get the population, while the subsequent schools will have lots of student with similar range of T-scores?

just my 2 cents after reading some of the threads on 2010 PSLE. I just hope my DD can make it to DHS with 255+2.

        Hi all,

Please share you DS/DD's T-score and whether he/she has the EESIS and 3rd Lang (French/ Jap/ German) options?

EESIS determines the top 3% of the cohort while 3rd Lang option is for top 10%. The COP T-scores for both can be used to \"calculate\" the COPs of schools especially top schools like RI/RGS/HCI/NYGH/DH etc.

Last year 2009 EESIS COP was 261. Top 10% COP was 248. If the EESIS COP gone up this year, we can expect the top schools' COPs to go up as well.
        Hi ycpang,

My friend's son scored 250 for PSLE last year and he wasn't offered French/Jap/German. I'm wondering if the top 10% COP of 248 for last year is correct.

It is correct. Maybe your friend was mistaken.

Perhaps she was mistaken. But was the 248 figure from a single posting on the forum or several? I'm just wondering because sometimes numbers need to be verified.

'The new, standard EESIS quantum of $2400 will continue to be awarded

to up to the top one-third of students posted to Secondary One in all Independent Schools, regardless of their family income.'

This was mentioned in the press release of MOE in 2007. Top 33% or 3%?

Okay so that means EESIS will be awarded to top 3% of the PSLE cohort. Thereafter, must be within top 33% of the secondary (independent) school to ensure he/she continues to get EESIS throughout the years.

So if candidate A is amongst the top 3% , went into Independent school, took up the EESIS...to ensure A gets this scholarship throughout the years, candidate A must study hard & be amongst the top 33% of his/her secondary school.

For those who could not get the EESIS but in the subsequent years are amongst the top 33% of his/her secondary school. Will he/she be given the EESIS in secondary 2 onwards?

What did he score for both EL & CL?
Will this factor affect the eligibility for cat 3 3rd Lang even if one's t-score is within top 10%?

If top 10% is offered German / French as 3d language, What % of the student is given 3rd language with Malay Arabic and Bahasa Indonesia ?
