So which MOELC is moving - the Bishan Centre or the Ghim Moh Centre ?

it appears that the ghim moh one is moving, as it states that 285 Ghim Moh Road under the title \"holding site\" and next to it is \"final location wef Jul 2011\" at 25 Peck Hay Road

It'll be convenient for schools around that area like RGS, SCGS, NYGH...
Hi,

Are any of your ds/dd taking a 3rd language in school? What language did they take and how are they coping? Do you know if they will be given an option to drop the 3rd language should they decide not to continue?

I'm in a dilemma as ds is keen but I\"m afraid it might be too much for him...

              Appreciate any advice. 😄

Based on my students’ and peers’ experiences, I would stay go for 3rd language if offered.

                Why?

My students and peers who took 3rd language subsequently went on to minor in those languages at Uni. And that gave them alot of opportunities to be selected for overseas internship or exchange.

My sec sch senior took German as 3rd language. She got to go to Germany on an exchange program in S4. Subsequently, she got a scholarship from MOE to study in Germany. She’s now a German language teacher at MOE’s language centre.

My students who took 3rd language mostly are overseas right now, either on internship or exchange programs.
Many of them feedback that their peers who did not take 3rd language but worked hard enough to go too had problems adjusting due to the language.

What is important is that your child picks a language in which he/she will be interested in the culture too. And if they realise that they can’t cope later on, they can always drop it before they register for any national exams.

Forgot to mention about the job opportunities next time.

An ex-classmate of mine took German and she’s now working in a German firm, travelling to Germany very often for meetings. She did tell me that she was promoted very quickly because she could understand, read, speak and write German.

Similarly for Japanese. Another friend did not qualify for 3rd language in sec sch but she took private lessons outside. She took all the exams (JLPT - I think) and she’s now working in a Japanese company, if I’m not wrong, she’s in top management already.
