RE: How to reduce bad cholesterol?
tankee:
Hi Tankee, congrat! care to share what form of exercise, the duration and the frequency per week that you were on for the last nine month to make it so effective? did you actually joined a fitness center ?After 9 months of exercising and diet, no medication nor supplements.
Total cholesterol reduced from 301 to 218
HDL cholesterol increased from 59 to 61
LDL cholesterol reduced from 220 to 140
Cholesterol/HDL ratio reduced from 5.1 to 3.6
Results much better than I was hoping for.
Hopefully another 3-6 months to bring all readings into the healthy range. At least now i know for sure I am on the right track
And can share more on your diet plan? TIA -

It depends on how many vacancies left after WL1 allocation. Think your chance will be higher among the WL2 if you put it as first choice during option phase in Oct. Keep in mind last yr PSLE cut-off was 261. Many missed by just 1 pt to get in after PSLE.erntrg:
Hi, My son got a reply from Hwa Chong mentioned that he is under waitlist'2'. Can anyone explain what does waitlist '2' mean? I mean how is the chances of getting in to the school?
HCI has WL1 and WL2. WL1 has higher priority. WL2 also has very good chance of getting CO finally. Last year, there was a briefing for parents whose ds got WL. You could check with the school if there is any briefing this year. All the best! -

I think if your ds is really keen in HCI just put it as first choice (if you have more than one WLs) during exercise phase and focus on doing well in PSLE so that even if the WL2 does not materialize your ds still can get in via PSLE.Hello!
DS got a WL2 today from HCI dsa. I was wondering if anyone here or your friends experience WL2 before? I know WL1 has very high chance but not sure of WL2, although the email said that \"Based on our previous DSA exercises, almost all our Waitlisted candidates eventually gained admission into HCI.\" DS is very keen in HCI and hope parents can share your experiences.
Thank you! -

My DS was from GEP and went in HCI via DSA. He said the interview was relaxed, and not being pressed hard for his views.
Is yours for mainstream or GE? If not wrong in the past for mainstream the interview is quite relaxing more like chi chat but GE ones are challenging, no debate , don't worry.Otah:
Hi All,
If your DS was via DSA to HCI previously, could you kindly share your experience on the format of DSA test on English and Chinese. MCQ or Open-ended or both?
Next the group diagloue (interview) consist a panel of interviews for a group of students. If it is the latter, how do they assess on the student performance as it is just like debate, whoever is faster in answering will the lead the conversation and other students may not have the chance to add on if the first speaker cover the topic comprehensively.
Please help
My understanding is the school is looking for a \"good match\", student that sincerely wants to study in HCI.
More like they do look at everything and leave the choice to you -

But they mentioned the O level class will still be 1 at sec 4, so I believe the SIP (structure IP) classes is to help pull back those might be drifted off in their study during their teens. The ultimate JC is HCJC which will continue to make a difference.
The key phrase is - \"In the past\" because more and more top of the cream choose the other IP school.mkkiasu:
According to the school it will be 1 class in each consortium for sec 3, and ultimately 1 class of 'O' level at sec 4. That means about 1/4 of cohort will be put to SIP class in sec 3.
In the past they managed with 1 class in the whole cohort in sec 3, so now 4x as many will be 'stream' to SIP. It's seems quite pointless to have this IP programme then.
So do these top schools really have good teachers that can teach or smart students? As smart students migrate the answer is obvious.
HCI will be leveled with all other IP schools eventually hence more O level classes is in the making.
SIP is a safety net to catch this group of student that might need another route for their education pathway to study in peace. Or should they bulldoze their way in via tuition? :scratchhead: -
RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)
May be they find it is better to give more wake up calls at sec three else if these students drag on to yr 5 may continue to slag n in the end cant do well in their A level. From what i know sip is still following ip syllabus but the classes r more structure more close monitoring given to these students. Good for them right ?

RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)
The MSG cut-off for Q class used to be 4. Q class is now renamed SIP and the cut-off changed to 3.
I find this counter intuitive. When we attended the S1 symposium the communication was this:
Sec 1- MSG 5
Sec 2 - MSG 4
Sec 3 & 4 - MSG 3
I thought this is reasonable with a gradual raising of bar. Now it’s suddently changed to MSG 3 at Sec 2. And when in SIP class you have to bear the uncertainty of whether you’ll continue with O level or IP for another year. It’s like putting constant pressure to meet the grade. So in the ends it’s all the grades and exams that matters.[/quote
I think it is more to protect those who cant cope with the ip syllabus or sleep through and have not waken up at end of sec 3, to at least have a chance to do o level and have alternatives. The local uni entry requires 4 grade A for A level in most coursez nowadays is the most pressurize. Last time where got like that. How to dun emphasize on grade down the stream? With o level cert at least can go oversea, or poly or come out and work. -
Does anyone know if any school offers dsa via weiqi? TIA
HCI - I heard the school offers one student via weiqi each year. The school looks at academic results too. Once, the school made an offer to the second best weiqi player among those who applied because the best player's academic results were not good enough.
However, when looking at HCI dsa site, they do not offer a domain for dsa via weiqi. Do you have more information on this? Thank you!
Think they still have to apply via phrase 2 and school will identify his profile thru his application.
