Hi Kiasuparent1123
I have attended the recent open house at PLMGSS and as far as I know, they do accept a small number of non-affiliation girls based on some selection criteria. I'm not sure whether ballet is one of PLMGSS's niche area. You might want to call up the school tomorrow for more details. Good luck to your daughter and hopefully she can get into her dream school.

Thanks. But is it possible as saying that she has a touch of dance skills. How about TKGS. Would they consider my daughter’s appeal? She got 216.

1st and 2nd seem logical to me and in my opinion, your chance of getting into NH is pretty high as your son's T-score is quite way above NH's.Hi 25hours, pls give me your comments
1st: RV
2nd: NH
3rd: SJI
4th:Catholic
5th: Bukit panjang Govt
6th: Commonwealth
But 3rd and 4th seem a bit illogical, unless of course, you very much prefer SJI over CH. I would switch the two if it is my case.
Your 4th and 5th are relatively safe but I very much doubt you would have a chance to use them at all.
That's said, I personally think you have made very wise and realistic choices based on your son's score. :celebrate: -
Hi
I was looking thru PLMGSS’s website and their dance team has clinched a Gold with Honours award in 2009. So your dd’s ballet achievements can be an added advantage.
As for TKGS, it’s a risk to put it as a choice as last yr COP was 233.
Anyhow, I think the best is to call up these 2 schools to enquire more. -

Thanks for your guidance. I've just checked. CHIG St Theresa's Convent banding has not been good over the years i.e. B9 (05); B8(06); B9(07); B6(08); B8(09) and B7(10)....but affiliated with CJC
Just my thought.koguma:
i seriously need help...my parents like me cannot decide...
i got 230 and actually decided to put the following choices:
1. Commonwealth (COP at 236)
2. Swiss Cottage (COP 234)
3. Clementi Town (COP 230)
4. Fuhua (COP 229)
5. Kranji (COP 229)
6. Either Bukit Batok or Gan Eng Seng (COP 221 and 222 respectively)
went to commonwealth today for the open house and have also taken the appeal form...to appeal the teacher told me that it's best that i put it as first choice....
my parents want me to give up Commonwealth and put Swiss as first choice followed by the rest of the schools as stated above...last choice being Bukit batok or Gan Eng Seng.
or should i also give up Swiss and put CHIJ St Theresa's Convent as first choice (COP 232) followed by Clementi Town and the rest as above. However, checking against the 2010 School Achievement, CHIJ St Theresa's Convent is Band 7....worst among all the schools selected.
I'm loosing sleep thinking of the above.
Any kind souls willing to assist? Thank you.
High chance you will not get into Commonwealth. Swiss Cottage may also has a problem. Hence if you put these 2 as choice 1 and choice 2, make sure choice 3 is the school you really want to go in, incase you fail to get into 1 and 2.
For CHIJ St Theresa's Convent, you may want to check how is their performance since 2004 (School Achievement starts in 2004). To get the info, go to MOE website, then select Press release, and start looking from 2004,. normally is in Sep/Oct). If they have been improving since 2004, then I won't mind choosing it. But if they have been decreasing since 2004, then you may want to consider. HOWEVER, if you are hardworking, you should not be bothered by the ranking.
Hope you can sleep now
I seriously do not mind even if i get into my 3rd choice and below schools because my parents and relatives have heard good feedback on Clementi Town, Fuhua Kranji, Bukit Batok.
So, my choices are safe considering i've chosen 2 schools above my COP, 1 school at my COP and 3 other schools below my COP?
thank you again.
May I ask how to check the past years banding? thanks! -

Sorry 25hourmaid, I have a question about the appeal, what is the procedure to conduct it? Like say, we must put that school on 1st choice, and we need to inform the school in advance before the posting day...? I can't find any detailed information for it... And the understanding to it which we are talking about here is actually quite different from the statement on the booklet, which is more on the cause of disability so have to appeal.
First of all, I must say I am no expert in the PSLE selection of schools, merely sharing what I have learnt from my own personal experience with my two boys but between the selection of schools and appeal, I would say I am more well-informed about schools than appeal cases.25hourmaid:
THanks, for your advise. but appeal must base on something right? my son nothing to offer to them leh? hee
Haha, that is very practical of you. If your son has nothing to offer to them for appeal, then make sure you are happy with second choice, that's what I would advise. Good luck. :celebrate:
Speaking for myself, I would exercise my choices wisely and realistically without putting much hope for appeal should my choice be not available. Best option is to exercise the selection with care, making sure that the choices are realistic and making sure that my 2nd or 3rd choices are actually schools which I really don't mind my child getting into in the event that the first choice is not available. I won't put an unrealistic school as my first choice if my child's score is too far off from the COP of that school concerned, with the hope of making an appeal after the Posting results are released.
I would say parents nowadays are already having it much easier than my time. We have 6 choices to choose from unlike the 2 miserable choices my parents had when I did my PSLE eons ago. With the 6 choices, if they are exercised properly and realistically, I don't see why a child should not get into the school of his/her choice, provided of course, the 6 choices were made with care and consideration. So far, I have yet to come across anyone whose child did not get into any one of the 6 choices. But if a parent were to make unrealistic choices for all the 6 schools, then you can't blame anyone if your child did not get into any of his/her 6 choice schools, right?
So all I can say is that every school has their own appeal procedure and time frame etc. Best is to call up the school of your choice to make enquiries, there is \"no one rule fits all kind of thing\" where appeal is concerned. All I know is that most schools would make their appeal forms available either from their website or hardcopy from their General Office after the Posting result is out on 22 December.
Generally people appeal if they are just one or two points off their dream school's COP or if they think that their child has something to offer to the dream school, for eg, a CCA with stunning achievements which happen to be the dream school's niche CCA etc, but that said, if that is the case, generally the child would have already applied for DSA and would already have been accepted there.
You made a very valid point about appeal for the schools with disabled facilities. If I am not wrong, there is already a list of schools which are disabled friendly so if I were those parents with a disabled child, I would make sure that a school with such a facility is among one of my choices unless of course, the child is a top score but is disabled, then I would make enquiries with my dream school prior to making my choices about their provision for the disabled etc. -

One thing that I see and realise is the RAFFLES SPIRIT. It is definitely something that I don't see in other schools. Sorry to say this but not even Hwa Chong or Nanyang. The Rafflesian spirit is something you can't quite describe but you'll know it when you see it. The sense of belonging, the sense of pride wearing the school badge or school shirt etc. Don't get me wrong Raffles in not my ala mater. But I see the school spirit from RI to RGS to RJC. And that to me stands out.
2 things that are constant in the R-spirited school until today:atutor2001:
Hi semaj
You have given a very good stat. Many don't realise. It is the culture of the school. Somehow, RJ students can peak when the time comes. Many of them fooled around throughout JC but will still get straight As in A level.
Ya one more observation. Many top humanity students from RGS will go to HCI instead of RI in JC.
1. Play n fool around all yr but still excel
2. The stronger cohort is always the science stream. 4 points from 'o' levels can get into arts but never science stream in RJ. -

May I ask how to check the past years banding? thanks!
For 2010,
1) Goto http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2010/
2) Look for \"September 19, 2010 Recognising School Achievements in 2010\". The branding is at Annex E1.
For earlier years, click on 2009, 2008, 2007, etc (left hand side on http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2010/)
MOE used different label for the link fo each year, but it should be in Sept.
Hope you can find them. -
