A boy from China -
I was in school just now with my boy to collect his PSLE result. This year PSLE mean score is 218, result is slightly better than last year, 0.2% improvement in passing rate, 99.1% passed ie 0.9% needs to repeat.

INNOVATE:
Chongfu's golden era was btw the v late 1990s and 2007.
During the above period, the mean aggregate was approx 224-226, 80% qualified for express and slightly more than 30% qualified for SAP ie 250 and above. The school had produced no less than 8 PM's Book Prize winners for bilingualism. In those yrs, it set the standard for good neighbourhood schools.
The academic standard has gone down of late. Just hope that the turnaround can happen soon.
Hi Innovate,
any idea how was the PSLE results for 2008, 2009, 2010 (comapred to the earlier yrs) ? -
You know, being a first time mum having kid in Primary School, we are worried about the learning pace in CF. Dunno whether our kids can cope or not. Perhaps u can share with us. In General, how's the learning pace in CF. Is it stressing?

[/quote]Hi,
babycutie71,
My boy's concentration span is not that great. Generally, he doesnt really like chinese but he is a avid english reader. 1st half of the year, they do mainly hanyu pinyin and some easy chinese words..2nd half, mainly chinese words, but not difficult ones.. But i have to say that dh's memory is pretty good and he is quite a fast learner...I didnt have any specific methods for him to memorise the words, i just make him read to me his chinese text. Even then, i dont do it very regularly and i only have 1 assessment book for him. My younger girl is 4 and cant really speak mandarin yet. I'm hoping it'll get better when she enters K1. You have to watch out for mathematics, though. It's pretty tough.
yes, it can be quite stressful, top class can be quite competitive. streaming into top class starts from P3. my daughter is in P2 and son in P4 this year. I would advise everyone to use P1 and P2 to build up their foundation. P1 and P2 are easy. It gets tougher after every year thereafter. It also depends on the form teacher. My kids are in the good class so no compalint on the teacher but can't say for other class. it is not easy. we are struggling to keep up. we have to study together with them................I don't really believe in tuition initially but we have no choice as we are both working...........struggling to find good tutors too. anyone has good recommendations?? -

Jeanette,
How do we know whether our kids are in good class? Anyway to find out? My girl will only attend P1 next year and I am not sure whether my girl's class is good or not. How to judge?
For lower Primary, parents involvement in coaching is inevitable if we want our kids to do well. Even if we engage a tutor for our kids, as a parent, we should be involved in monitoring their work too. And like you said, study with them which I am doing right now and can be quite stressful as I have already return most of my knowledge back to my teachers....:) -
