cut of point for SAP school as published by MOE does not include HCL bonus points. it is the lowest t-score for anyone without HCL to get into that SAP school
if a student has HCL passes, she / he enjoys the benefit of the bonus point, does not imply that the cut-off point of the school is thus lowered by 3 points. it is a reward for doing the extra paper of higher difficulty. -

Hi there. Just wanted to say that your interpretation is not correct. The COP DOES include bonus points. When MOE lists the COP, that's the score of the last student entering the school. That student could have scored 263, 262+1, 261+2 or 260+3. Because it is a SAP school, the child with 260+3 is able to use his bonus points and hence his score is now 263. However, his ACTUAL score is only 260 as stated in his PSLE slip.

This is just my humble opinion. Plse correct me if I'm wrong.

When we put in the 6 choices, there could a mix of SAP and non SAP schools. how can MOE rank? Likely to be just the score without HMT.
If student A gets in first before B and then the last COP is 239, student B will get in first before C. So then, what will be the published COP. Is it 240 (student A's score) or 241 (student B's score)?
Anyone who has the right info, plse provide....thank you in advance.

As we are selecting the schools together with our child, we should not just look at the reputation of the school. The culture of the school is equally important. The stress level of the school should be considered, ie if your child is someone who cannot work under great stress, then do think carefully about your choice. Ultimately, we want a happy child, especially when they will be going through their teenagers phase in the next few years.

We have an English speaking environment at home so not sure if she can adapt to the culture and environment in Nanyang Girls. On the other hand, Raffles Girls seems to be a very competitive environment so not sure if teachers are caring.
My girl is a Sec 2 (going Sec 3) girl in NYGH. We are also a English-speaking family, and she did not take higher chinese in primary school. Initially we were also worried that she could not cope with higher chinese, but I am glad to share that she has been coping very well over the last 2 years. Of course effort has to be put in cos her foundation is not very strong. So, your daughter, with her high T-score and higher Chinese, will definitely be able to cope. Hope this helps.

NYGH has stated very clearly that the COP includes HMT bonus points. Go here http://www.nygh.moe.edu.sg/, click FAQs under Sec 1 Appeal. So that's very clear. COP is INCLUSIVE OF HMT.
In your eg., the scores that the computer will take into account is:
A: 240, B: 241, 239.
Student B will get in first, then A, then C.
The MOE computers will rank the students such that if they are applying to SAP schools their bonus points will be taken into consideration. So no sequencing problem. -
My oldest daughter went to NYGH and my youngest daughter went to RGS, both of them were from RGPS. I can say that both are good choices. NYGH has more emphasis on Chinese language and culture. We have an English speaking environment at home. My oldest daughter is strong on her language skills, she is from GEP, there were some rough patches because of the changes in the GEP education transistion to IP but those are all over now, so IP is very much stablized. The youngest daughter in RGS also love her school because of the ethos and legacy of the school. The new principal is quite a dynamic lady. Go visit both the school and speak with the principal, teachers & students to get a feel and then examine the strengths and interest of your child to decide. Both are good choices.

I think both are equally good schools. You can take distance, range of CCAs, school culture into consideration when you select the schools. If your DD has scored 3 for Higher Chinese, her Chinese has to be quite good.aikidocat:

If you have an English speaking environment at home, it will be good for her to go to NYGH for more Chinese exposure. Then, she will be well balanced. Eventually, regardless of RGS or NYGH, all the students take the same Higher chinese paper at O-levels. If you are more exposed to the language, chances of doing better will be higher.
Just my opinion.
