      Hi mummyjoyce,

Tamarind has a very good blog on managing maids. I've learnt a lot from it. Here's the link.

      http://singaporemaid.blogspot.com/2007/07/how-to-manage-maid.html

I've also learned from my mistakes and changed certain aspects of how I manage my new maid (now almost 1 year with us, so far so good).

Good luck with your new maid! 🙏

My current maid (let call her "X"), after a heated augement, wanted to go back to philiipines after working for a few months with us. Before she left, we did a thorough check of her luggauge and found notes of ten dollars and 1 dollar coins stuffed into her jeans and blouses. She even made a small pouch to store the 1 dollar coins. We took video footage of her while she confessed her crime. Afterwhich we sent her to the polic station. The policeman advised us that if we want to press charges against her, she would be taken in to custody and lockup for at least 2 weeks. She pleaded and we decided to send her back to the airport instead.

The subsequent two maids after X were terrible (the last one even has a life-theatening illness that need long-term medicine and would faint without notice). Later, we heard from the agent that X had wanted to come back to S’pore to work, so we talked to her again over tele, and decided to take her back again. So, in the end, it is one big circle back to X again.

But we never create or allow opportunity for the maid to be alone with my kids. And at times will check our toddler for bruises on his body for signs of abuse.

huh? kiasupig, you sure it’s a good idea to take one with ‘unclean’ hands back? I heard from friend that her maid stole money from the family - but they continued with her (cos she was a good cook). but seems like her habits didn’t die.

Just be careful where you place your valuables. Good luck!

I really hate if they tell lies or if they steal. if trust is lost, how to continue the working relationship?

                Hi,

I’ve the same reservation as well that old habits die hard. As it’s not possible to be on your guard 24 hours a day.

Recently my sil’s indo chinese maid stole her gold jewellery. On top of that, she told my maid that she used the chopper to point at the children (my niece and nephew) that if they misbehave, she will use the knife to chop them up :!: She has only been with her for less than 6 months. I don’t like her as everytime when we’ve a family function and she comes to our house, iso helping out like the other maids, she will follow my maid around, pretend to help but she is actually talking to her and trying to avoid work. Worse of all, my maid is already so busy so my maid also dislike this maid.

They sent her back for good 2 weeks back. I found it scary as it’s like living with a time bomb.

Just to share the first maid we had in 2007. She was quite pleasant looking and young, despite married with two young kids. We employed her because we wanted a better-looking maid so as to not fighen our infant baby. She was with us for less than a year. We had to send her off because she tried to feed my baby then with hot water.

Just last month my mother-inlaw happened to chance upon her in Singapore. She was behaving quite intimate with another elder man. My MIL exchanged a few words with her - apparently she had divoced her husband in Phillipines, and had married her employer …
                  :!:

New updates ! Check my blog before you employ new maids !

                    http://singaporemaidcomments.blogspot.com/

My blog includes a list of maids and their ex-employer's comments about them. If you have sent away a maid, and you want to warn other employers about her, please email me the maid's full name and your comments at [email protected].

There are so many bad maids being \"recycled\" in Singapore, because new employers do not know the real history of the maid !

Just want to add story about maids.

Last month our family came back from holiday and found out that our maid (now ex-maid) was prostituting herself in our apt when we were away. This was not the first time we left her alone in our apt. She already with us for many years, and we trusted her - treated her like our own family.

The night when we came back, I accidentally passed by her bedroom, and saw many evidences (condoms, sorry to say it frankly). I asked her and she admitted herself doing it. Moreover, one of the guy is our neighbour. I checked her handphone, and found more evidences. Can’t take it anymore, and sent her back home two days after that. I am sure she will come back to work again, as her husband was jobless at her hometown and waiting for her to send money back.

After sending her back home, when I showered my eldest son ( 5 y.o)he told me all the ill treatment he got when my maid took care of him and his younger brother.
