Luckily, my DD already knows about such things from observing me through the years. She even asked me when she’ll get breasts and whether she’ll have to wear a bra. I expect her to reach puberty earlier than her peers too partly cos my mom, sis and I reached puberty earlier and partly cos my DD herself is already physically more matured than her peers.

When I first found out that I was expecting a girl during my first pregnancy, I felt sad for her that, like me, she'll have to go through the scary journey of pregnancy + childbirth pains...

Hi cluelessmom, its normal for you to feel that way, because at least, me too ! 😄 After sometime, you would overcome this thought and after phyical change, here come their change in thinking. Then slowly you would understand, your baby is now a young lady whom has crush and admiration ... Its pretty normal, so do not feel phathetic or lost. We parents are also normal human, we need time to adjust too. :celebrate:

Hi, Edason. Those period underwear can be purchase at all major shopping center. Just tell them you are looking for period underwear. There is day and night underwear. Night has a bigger "protection" area.

Aiyoh, you poor thing! But eventually, someone helped you, right?

Nope. I thought my breasts were going to burst, so scared to tell my mum of my 'illness'.

Only lucky thing I had period much later, so the school nurse managed to inform us about it and taught us how to use a pad.

😄 When I first had my period, I thot I had a illness that I was bleeding below!!!! It only in the evening that I dare to tell my mum about it. I was 14 then. So imagine the anxiety hoping that it will go away throughout the entire day.

When I discovered my girl had hers 2 weeks ago, she was cool and calm. I was the one who panicked a little - the day had finally arrived when my baby girl has become a woman.

Glad she was already mentally and emotionally prepared for it from the talks in school and my casual chats with her. Of course, lots of assurance from me that it's a natural process of growing up and it's in preparation for her to be a mother in future. It's a priviledge to be a woman - I tell her - we are created differently and unique in our own way.

She complained of stomach cramps - and yearned for the day it would be over. And I taught her how to calculate when the next period will be and to be prepared for it. Oh yes, she learned to mark down the date in her diary and I gave her a nice little pouch to contain the pads. We also went shopping to buy the most suitable type for her.

We feel closer than before - something that only women can share with.

                  :celebrate:

I hate cramps! It brings me down for one whole day. So bad that I go to docs for painkillers.

Strange thing though - cramps are no longer a problem after i gave birth to DS1. Last time, my mum said you will not have cramps after you get married, but still had them.

You can buy those heat packs for her if it's really bad. It comes in plastic coverings where it will crystalise as heat is emitted from the pack. It beats eating those painkillers.

Maybe your mom was lucky? I had cramps even after giving birth.

I use this thing which I got from TRU some years back. It's supposedly safe for kids too, much safer than a hot water bottle. It has an inner cloth bag that is sewn shut and filled with little pellets that absorb heat and give off a slight fragrance that is supposedly aromatherapeutic. It is put in cheerful looking circular pouch that is about 20cm in diameter. It's like putting a cushion into a cover. You seal the back with velcro. You nuke it in the microwave for no more than 2 minutes, then pop it on your tummy. It's quite hot at first so I put it on top of my clothes. When it cools down a little, I put it under my clothes, directly on my tummy. My DD uses it too when she has discomfort due to gas. You can wash the outer cover in the washing machine.

                        Just to share:

                        To prevent cramps:
*Avoid ‘cold’ stuffs like pineapple & grass jelly before period. During my first few years of becoming woman, had bad cramps, once the weather was so hot and I drank cold drinks, esp ching-chao everyday before period and i had a TERRIBLE cramps and even vomited after taking the pain-killer.

*Learned from a magazine, - do stretching exercise: In standing position, step one leg forward while lifting up both arms to feel the stomach muscle stretched, repeat the other leg. That worked for me, always did during my first day.

BTW i know about period from friends and books. My family never teach me about it! i guess my mum and sis (1 year older) presumed that i know!
