kiasuest2:

There are a total of 178 primary schools in Singapore πŸ˜‰

p/s info collated from MOE website

      Hi kiasuest2,

Do you know how many schools that do not have PSLE school candidates for PSLE 2010 exam?As far as I know, there are 2 schools for this year (2010):
North Vista Primary and Horizon Primary.

Do you know whether there are any additional primary schools other than the above mentioned 2 primary schools that didn't have any PSLE school candidates for 2010 PSLE exam?

      Thks.
      πŸ˜‰

Wow, that one simple questions had me going to look at the MOE press releases for Primary One Registration from 2005 till 2010.

Here's the complete results by year; 6 new schools in 2008, 1 in 2010 and 1 in 2011. Cantonment Primary is not included in the list of the 178 primary schools since it is not \"technically\" a primary school yet. So there will be 179 primary schools wef 2011!

      22 Jun 2005
\"There are no new primary schools starting operation in 2006.\" - Annex F

      22 Jun 2006 - No new schools; 4 schools merged into 2.

21 Jun 2007 - \"Six new primary schools will be opened in 2008. These are Anchor Green Primary, Beacon Primary, Endeavour Primary, Greendale Primary, Innova Primary, and North Vista Primary. \"

      19 Jun 2008 - No new schools; 4 schools merged into 2.

18 Jun 2009 - \"A new school named Horizon Primary will open in 2010 in the new town of Punggol. \"

17 Jun 2010 - \"A new school, Cantonment Primary School, will open in 2011 in the Bukit Merah area.\"

        Approximately 90-110?

        276-282 there's 17.

What is your reasoning for the estimation? How many primary schools are there in Singapore? 300-400? Can we say that on average, every primary school produce one psle candidate with t-score>270?

There are a total of 178 primary schools in Singapore πŸ˜‰ Not EVERY primary school produces 1 or more pupils with 270 and above; some of the better primary schools produce a handful of them.

I believe that the total number of scorers with 270 and above form less than 1% of the cohort; put another way, if you scored 270 and above, you are in the top 1% of your cohort.

p/s info collated from MOE website
1% of 40000 is still 400. I think there are less than 200 with score equal or more than 270. So 270 is really better than top 0.5% for this batch.

I believe most of the schools with at least one candidate with score above 270 are already on the list provided by yongjianrong. And even considering a few schools like Rulang, Nanhua, Nanyang and Rosyth can produce a handful of maybe 10 with scores above 270, the number is still well below 200.

I was trying to be generous; this year's cohort is about 45,000; so I do not disagree that scoring 270 or more puts you in the top 0.5% of the cohort at the very least! πŸ˜‰

at the NYPS psle results day, the principal explained tt she had time to flash only the names of the sch’s top scorers up to joint 9th position even though there were several more GEP kids who made it to the national top 100 list. As the joint 9th score was 271, this means tt 270 is in the national top 100.

              Hi kiasuest2,

              Thks for your quick response.
              178-6-1=171
So, 171 Primary schools have PSLE candidates that took part in 2010 PSLE exam. Is this figure correct?

              Thks.

Information taken from Vanilla Cake's list and the Top 50 schools' (in this list) website.

                  Corrections
ACSJ (Barker Road) is actually ACS Primary.
ACSJ (Winstedt) is actually ACS Junior.

Great Effort here Yong Jianrong πŸ™‚

Can i ask if you happen to know the top score for Ngee Ann Primary & Haig Girls' this year?

                  Or anyone knows? Thanks πŸ™‚

From the list, I does look like there are only about 100 students with t-score>=270
So little? Rulang has 12 pupils > 270, 32 pupils got 4 A star.

Any idea about Bukit Panjang Primary and South View.??How many 4A*??
Based on all these calculation, what are the expected COP for RI, RGS, NYGH, SCGS, MGS, ACS(I) and DH?

This query might be a little off topic but i’m hoping kiasu parents could still help us out especially since there are parents here who have experienced psle and sent their child to sec 1 already.

Could you please recommend good guide books per subject for Sec 1? my niece just got her psle results and we are now preparing for sec 1.We’re hoping that kiasu parents would be able to guide us since we are not locals.thank you.
