Can someone tell me the diff between SMO and NMO? Eg. my child in lower primay, does it mean she can go for NMO only?

Are the competition same category for all levels? Saw there are many training books for each levej at the bookstore. :?

to the best of my knowledge, there are currently at least 3 Mathematics Olympiads for primary school students:

SMO
The Singapore Mathematical Olympiad is organised by the Singapore Mathematical Society

Students who did well at this competition will go on to take part in the APMOPS (see below)
NMOS

I thought SMO is for Secondary school students and APMOPS is for Primary school students?

This is for SECONDARY school students; 3 categories, Junior (Sec 1&2), Senior (Sec 3&4) and OPEN category.
NMOS
The National Mathematical Olympiad of Singapore (NMOS) is a NUS High School initiative, working in partnership with the Gifted Education Branch, Ministry of Education and the Singapore Mathematical Society.
The preliminary round is held at the respective primary schools and the special round is held at NUS High School.

APMOPS
The Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools.
There are two rounds to the competition. The First Round competition is held at various centres across the Asia-Pacific region. The competition for Singapore schools, known as the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (SMOPS) is usually held at Hwa Chong Institution.

The invitation round, known as APMOPS, is usually held a month later. Again, the venue is usually at Hwa Chong Institution.

perhaps they could be referring to first round of APMOPS which is known as SMOPS in Singapore?

APMOPS is held in the Apr/May timeframe while the NMOS was held in July for 2010.

BTW, NMOS is for Primary 5 and below ONLY

SMO (Junior) is typically taken by Sec 1 & 2 students. However, as students are getting more and more MO-savvy and their first foray into MO is getting earlier and earlier (e.g. P4), it is not uncommon for P6 students to take SMO (Junior). This year, three P6 students made it into the top 30 individual positions (specifically 21st, 22nd, 24th) in SMO (Junior).
