Thanks for your advice, I had a look at the website...will cross the bridge when come to it.
Hi godiva, you can refer to http://www.rgs.edu.sg/newsite/News/RGS_2010_CCA_TrainingSchedule.pdf for a list of Core CCAs (Sports, Performing Arts, Uniform Groups) and Merit CCAs (Societies, Clubs and Services), to get an idea of the available CCAs and how many days of training per week for each CCA. Note this is only accurate for Year 2010 and there may be changes for 2011.mjl:
My daughter will be in Sec 1 next year. Just following up on the CCA, quite worried cos she is not very good in any sports, or performing arts, or uniformed group.
She is keen on debating, speech and drama...would any similar ccas be considered a core CCA?
You can see that Sports CCA, which is the hardest to get in, is also the busiest, typically 3 days of training per week and may increase to 5 times per week during competition period.
Most students who fail to get into any CCA during auditions will join the uniform groups. If your daughter is not the fit-kind, I won't advise her to join the NCC or NPCC. Also, just to let you know that among NCC(Air), NCC(Land) and NPCC(Sea), the last one is the less strenuous one.
As I mentioned before, some Merit CCAs can be taken in lieu of a Core CCA but must be approved by the Head of CCA. Do check with the teachers-in-charge or students of the Merit CCAs during the CCA Open House.
In Sec 1, my daughter joined NCC(Air) (it was only once a week then, but changed to twice a week the next year) and two other merit CCAs of her interest. In Sec 2, she dropped 1 Merit CCA and in Sec 3, she dropped NCC(Air) after getting approval for her other Merit CCA to be taken in lieu of Core CCA.
By the way, any idea if the booklist for Sec 1 is available yet? My knees are weak at the thought of the long queues on 23 Dec for books (reporting day).
What about school uniforms? may I know where I can buy from? heard horror stories about small sizes going out of stock and dd is petite.
I have called the sch and they told me the booklist for sec 1 is not out yet. Only release on 23rd dec! As for uniform, you can go to Bibi Baba at Scotts Shaw Centre to buy. Ample stocks now but not too sure on 23rd. Heard that they always run out of sizes... Hurry...hurry -
Thank you Lee Ann!
No choice but will have to wait till 23 dec to get booklist to buy books. Will Bibi n Baba sell RGS school uniform without any School Form? Cos uusally the school form indicate - pinafore, blouse, tie, badge, pe t-shirt etc? What is essential for first few weeks of school? Guess need to wear t-shirt and pe shorts and blouse and pinafore? -

Hey, for orientation programme when sch starts next year, which is always about 10 days. what you're required to wear is your pe t-shirt, *culottes, and pe shorts. you'll need them ALMOST everyday.
*culottes - a skirt and shorts combined. You'll know what it is on reporting day i think. 2 should be able to survive you for the wk of orientation, buy more than that then i THINK you might regret, which i regretted for buying 3. but it is definitely very convenient.
that's because after your orientation, you'll be back to pinafore everyday. culottes are only allowed on tuesdays and non-school-days but not compulsory, unless your child loves it (like me haha xD)
you can buy uniform at bibi and baba without any school form, they just need to know the school you're from, which in this case is RGS.
and i dont think you'll need to rush to buy the uniforms? they'll be selling during reporting day and the following days after that. you wont need them UNTIL when sch reopens next year. that pretty much gives you plenty of time to get the uniform and the books done
booklist is erm, not absolute. what i recommend is that, buy the essential ones first, like atlas for geography, short prose thingy for literature, science textbooks.
TEXTBOOKS, especially for math and history, wait for the teacher to say that you MUST buy it, if not you'll end up wasting money.
things like paint brushes, paint etc, you need them for aesthetics-D&T and such, you wont have to buy them yet.
RGS notebooks and more- buy on own discretion, some subjects allow you to use any notebooks you want since you dont have to hand them in to teachers.
You'll know what i mean once you get the booklist, i forgot what i bought in sec 1, coz i ended up with too many extra stuff by the end of my sec1 year -.-U. by all means, buy what you think you'll need.
Have fun

Hi fatal illuxions,
Do u happen to know the CCA leadership points awarded to the lead boards?
Do Prefects, PSLs & Congress members receive the same points for the same number of years of service?
Thanks!
