Book 7 is actually not a book for teaching, it is a reference book that shows you groups of words that look similar. Just let kids refer to it on their own, whenever they feel like it. They will find it interesting if they have developed a love the language.

It is sufficient to finish book 6. Then we should let kids read as many Chinese story books as possible. If we want them to write good essays effortlessly in P3, they should be reading long novels like 笑猫日记 by P2.

In fact, I read that some parents in China wrote in forums, that kids should read at least 10000 words a week. So we should plan to let kids read at least 1000 a words a day. It is best to continue to ask them to read out loud to us, so that we can help them if there are any words that they don't know.

Remember that the aim of reading is to develop the love for Chinese. Don't worry if kids cannot remember a word, if they read extensively, they will come across the same word many times. It is more important for kids to know how to write good sentences, than to remember individual words.

I totally agree with what you written here - yes, at times we are frustrated that the kids are unable to remember the words they read before and keep \"forcing\" them to re-read again. But that will defeat the purpose and in the long run, they will \"hate\" Chinese. Now I let my kids read at their own leisure timing and guide them along when they are \"stuck\" with a new word(s) and now they love to read Chinese books

That's great !

We should focus on \"enjoyment\" when reading books. When kids have developed a love for the language, then they will be self motivated to learn.

A few days ago, my son read 你看起来好像很好吃 to me. He laughed loudly when he read the funny part. To me, his laughter made me happier, compared to any new words that he learned from the book.

I bought some杨红婴books at the bookfest and also have the set of笑猫日记books coming in from Dangdang. I hope my son will enjoy these. I think they will last him for a while. Thank you for sharing.

I had bought the 1st book - 窗边的小豆豆. There are about 61 short stories and we may continuous after the xiao maio ri ji. Had let dd try one of the short story and she has no issue with most of the words. DD said her CL teacher also highly recommended this book.
